Vivian Maier -- Street photography

April 10th, 2016
I recently watched a documentary on a photographer named Vivian Maier - she was a nanny in Chicago for many years and took thousands of photographs. The photos/negatives were found after her death and there were many rolls of film that had not even been developed. If you like street photography this is an interesting story. She captured many people and tells many stories with her shots.

@juletee She's one of my favourite photographers. I've got her book - such a treasure.

I also saw this documentary some months ago, a fascinating collection and what an amazingly gifted and natural photographer she was.

@gailmmeek @quietpurplehaze I have watched the DVD and read all her books and she was so good - to think of walking around taking all those pictures so many years ago! She was really good - makes me want to go and try to get some shots like that! Maybe we should post a thread for people to post their "Vivian Maier shots" and see what we find from our friends.

@juletee

Yes, that would be interesting. And to think, too, of keeping it all to yourself - no 365 to share them on then!!

Thanks for posting. She was new to me, what an amazing artist!! Very inspiring. Such expressive portraits. I love the square format.

Just this morning (instead of doing anything productive!) I started adding her work to one of my Pinterest boards - she has the most amazing street photos!

@quietpurplehaze Thanks for the info that this is on DVD!
@juletee Yes, Ken and I saw the movie and it was a stunning documentary! We all love her work so in the present...too bad she wasn't able to receive these accolades in life! In her quiet, reclusive way, she became an Artist's Artist!

@Weezilou

It was a tad strange. I missed the TV prog so bought the DVD. Then the TV prog was repeated so I sill have an unopened DVD - but I have resolved to view it again!!
