A friend is having difficulty exporting photos from Lightroom

October 12th, 2016
He said his problem is in exporting the 624 photos(from his nephew's wedding) that He's labored on for a week.Lightroom continues to fail to export and gives him the message"AgExportRendition: image RegionMetadataUpdater():original can not be found(624). Any suggestions on how to solve this headache?

Maybe it is insufficient memory - he may need to try exporting just 5 images or so to see if it is that & then try 50 at a time.

I personally don't know. You might try "support" at adobe.com. I did a quick search there, but found nothing immediately. You don't mention the version of LR, whether Mac or Windows, where he is trying to export to, the Metadata he is trying to save or the Rendition settings...

Since the (624) in the error message is the number of the files, I'd suggest that Lyn @ltodd is right. Her advice to try a few is right on.

As a final resort, contact support by email. There are links "Contact Us" at the support page.

This probably has nothing to do with it but I have encountered a problem where the catalog loses connection with the original. Perhaps because the original has been moved. You can tell this has happen because there will be an exclamation point in a box on the thumbnail.

Looking at the error message I think Joan is right. It's some kind of communication error. Lightroom doesn't know where the original file is. It won't export the copy, if it has lost contact with the original. To test just one, you could try dropping the original back on to Lightroom - this may (or may not) reinstate it. The most likely cause of this problem is that Lightroom is looking at the wrong drive, or folder, or the images have been moved. Hope that helps.

I've had a similar issue, although not with so many files, in the past. It was simply that the original file had been moved - once I had dropped them back in to LR as @pistonbroke suggests then it came right and decided to work again. I'm sorry to say that I have no idea about the rest of the error message but it seems to me that when it tells you that "the original can not be found" that it has been moved, or worse yet deleted.
