Composite/Art/Creative Images

February 8th, 2018
Hello 365 family, I've recently got into composite imagery and wanting to know if there is anyone else on here that is doing it and would be interested in trading follows and sharing feedback and encouragement?

hi rose! your image is marvellous! so creative and skilfully executed. i love this kind of stuff but the use of layers in this way is still a tad beyond me. i did purchase a photoshop artistry course a while back, but haven't had/made the time to work my way through the videos. i would be very interested if you were prepared to share how you got into it, and what resources helped? also, i wonder what you would think about setting up some kind of challenge/ongoing thread, if there are enough 365-ers who are interested in this kind of thing? great to hear from you!

@pistache Hi Clare that is a great idea about a challenge. I am using tutorials off youtube to be honest to start with the one I am about to put up tonight ( i post a day ahead) is one I actually did without a tutorial. Youtube has some great resources out there. You follow them, keep doing them and you learn .

How I got into it is I am predominantly a cosplayer and portrait photographer and I really wanted to do something different for my clients.

This is lovely Rose, beautifully put together. I love doing this type of processing but I do find it quite time consuming. I really should make some time to create some again.
I think a challenge every so often would be a great idea and a boost to actually get creative!

@salza I am liking the idea of a challenge too :) I look forward to seeing what you come up with :)

Really nicely done! I do composites every once in a while as well - I’d certainly be up for a challenge!

@northy fabulous :) I look at setting one up very soon then :)

I adore your creativity. The idea of having a challenge of this sort would be so interesting and exciting. I am trying to conquer my fear of layers and expand my confidence as well as knowledge of this area of photography. Might I suggest that when and if a challenge is started that we must include the how to or what we did.

@joysabin and love your idea about explaining it. I have some great tutorials I follow on you tube that I'm learning from... I have a plan forming

Love this pic and your other creative work. I wish I had more time to devote to it too. I much prefer doing this kind of shot than a straightforward photo and will be following you with interest.

I am just getting involved with composite work. I have become a member of ShiftArt.com where they have tutorials, contests, and free resources. My photo posted for Feb 7 is from their February Challenge.

If you are interested in ShiftArt be aware there is a way to get a free, limited access membership. If you can't find it let me know and I can send you a link - not sure if it is okay to put a link to another site up here or not......

I love doing composites and would love challenges for it. I told you already that I don't have PS, but I definitely want to look into getting it so I can do more. Here's one of my latest that I posted on my project this month.

@jeffjones - that's really cool! I'll have to check out that site as well.

@not_left_handed - if you don't have Photoshop there are a lot of alternatives these days. There is Affinity Photo (one time purchase for $49 I believe), there is GIMP (though it has a bit of a steep learning curve). Corel's Paintshop Pro is pretty good and it is also a one tie purchase - no monthly fees.

If you have an iPhone you can get the Superimpose App and do a lot of things with it as well.

@jesperani Thanks Jennifer, that brings to mind whether we do it weekly or biweekly .. I have time restraints coming up with school and cosplay commitments and working for a mag so yeah life is busy lol

@jeffjones I would be interested . If you have facebook you can find me there to discuss it more @silverhorn73 should do it ;)

@not_left_handed as Jeff mentioned there is some great alternatives out there. I highly recommend Photoshop and if you can afford the monthly fee then definitely go that way. I use it for school a lot so its a rather necessary for me

@pistache @salza @northy @joysabin @jesperani @jeffjones @not_left_handed

I think we have the makings of a competition :)

What needs to be decided
1. How long for each competition I'm thinking weekly or fortnightly
2. Do we want to do a tutorial based one where I can post some youtube tutorials. (these are Photoshop based) and then we must add our own twists to it in some way
3. Would any of you be interested in helping run the competition as I go back to Uni in two weeks.
4 A tag for the photos

If you have any other ideas please share

i would love to be pointed towards some useful tutorials ...

i think weekly would be too frequent for me

i'm not sure if we're talking about a competition/challenge with voting and a winner? i would quite like this, as it would open it up to anyone interested on 365, to participate and to vote ... also it means that the winner can host the next round in terms of the admin, as happens with other 365 challenges ... but rose if you were happy to put up youtube tutorials whenever you have the time, that would be much appreciated? you, or the latest admin person, could choose a theme if they want to, or not if they don't ...

does at least some of that make sense?
February 8th, 2018
@pistache I think the winner choosing the theme would be a good idea.. that way I can participate too. Community voting would be awesome as well. I can put a weekly tutorial on my Monday photo each week if that helps you Clare :)

@guttersniperebeccca does some awesome composites, especially for @projectx
February 8th, 2018
@silverhorn there is a group called @sandbox365 where tutorials and how-tos can be posted, i could get you a pssword login Rose if you were keen to put that kind of stuff somewhere permanent @mikegifford how about it?
February 8th, 2018
@kali66 Yes please Kali :) I'd very much appreciate that

Hello Rose,
This is something that I am very much interested in. I've started the Photoshop Artistry Course a couple of months ago. Life got very busy just after I joined up, but fully intend to continue on. Whatever you have in mind, count me in.
Love the idea of a challenge and think that fortnightly time frame would be best. We all know that composites can be quite time consuming.
February 9th, 2018
@kali66 yes - i thought of sandbox as well... good idea!

Rose - a couple other things to consider... one is that there is already the WWYD (what would you do) challenge which issues an image that everyone is supposed to use as a starting point... this isn't strictly speaking a photoshop / composite exercise, often people just apply filters or make slider adjustments in LR or the equivalent... but i think you may want to try to distinguish the challenge you're about to start in some way... which should be easy to do given the focus on photoshop (or equivalents) and/or compositing/use of layers...

@silverhorn I would love to be tagged when you inaugurate! I'm totally fond of composites, both making and viewing.
February 9th, 2018
Sounds great to me. Love to be included
February 9th, 2018
a challenge would be great. and I would love to be included
February 9th, 2018
@silverhorn great composite love it , I haven't really tried it but will like to do it in the future. I imagine is quite time consuming. If there is a challenge maybe it should start slow, maybe every two weeks or maybe even once a week.
thanks for starting the discussion
February 9th, 2018
So glad to see many of you jumping on board, will get something sorted over next few days
April 29th, 2018
@silverhorn Will you please add me as well? Thanks! Kate
