Cyclone Gabrielle in NZ

February 12th, 2023
Hope all the New Zealanders on 365 are coping and keeping safe as Cyclone Gabrielle is making her presence felt here over the next couple of days.
It would be good to know how you are all doing.
Thinking especially of those in Northland, Auckland and Coromandel areas who will be getting hit hard tonight!
We are ok in Tauranga, we have our motorhome parked in a reasonably sheltered spot in town, along with a few others. So far we have had some rain and wind but nothing major; we think the worst is to come for us tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Hope you stay safe @chikadnz We're OK in Waikato at the moment, although the worst is yet to come tomorrow.

Stay safe.

Saying some prayers for you all there, from the safety of my home in Kansas, USA, with very calm weather here presently.

I'm North Waikato. Could hear the wind was quite strong during the night, but I've just returned from my usual 5km morning walk, and it wasn't any worse than a mid-winter walk. Although it's raining harder now.

Praying for all my NZ followers! Stay safe and take indoor pics as Gabrielle passes by (o:

Hope that New Zealand doesn’t suffer too much damage and that you all stay safe.

@nickspicsnz @yorkshirekiwi Thanks for checking in, good to hear you’re both ok. I think a lot of homes further north have lost power and/or have more important things to think about than 365 at the moment! We have steady rain (not heavy yet) and the wind has definitely picked up, but expecting worse later.
@yorkshirekiwi 5km morning walk? Impressive!!

Hope and pray that all hatches are battened down and everyone is safe from Gabrielle's forces.

its starting to rev up in Auckland now. Today I went to work and the streets and motorways were almost empty. Took me 24 mins to get to work on a trip that sometimes can take up to an hour on the motorway

Hope and pray that New Zealand will not be hit to hard and that everyone will stay safe. My prayers are with you all :-)

@brigette @kipper1951 hope you stay safe and dry overnight! Its been pretty wild here this evening (and still is now) but supposed to gradually improve.

@kali66 Obviously the South Island is the place to be! If you do get the wind, hope it doesnt cause much damage.

@joysabin @jackies365 @joemuli @ludwigsdiana @annied Thanks to you all. Its very wet and wild here still, but we are grateful as we have not experienced the flooding that many other areas have.

Was a pretty scary night, but we have come out unscathed. Fortunately we’re about as central as you can get. Although there are trees down, flooding and holes in the road. The people living on the coast have had it far worse. Terrible pictures coming in of houses collapsed. Some communities completely cut off. It feels like being back in lockdown

We’re in Taranaki - just incredibly strong winds for us and the power has only just come back on, so my first coffee of the day is 6 hours overdue, as is my internet access!!! The audacity!!!

Oh, and a big tree down in the middle of the night.

I'm in Northland - we're ok but power has just come on, although plenty don't have it yet. I haven't been able to get into work for the last 2 days, lots of trees down and flooding. We were stocked up with food and had a camping stove for coffee :) Things are starting to calm down now, thankfully. I will post some pictures after I have cooked dinner - if the power stays on.
I'm pleased everyone else seems safe too.

@graemestevens @christinav Great to hear you are both okay. It’s been much nicer in Tauranga today, even some sunshine. We have just visited a local park where two big trees had come down in the storm. We are waiting to hear from family in Napier, we understand they have no power or cellphone coverage and some may have been evacuated due to threat of flooding.
