Hope all the New Zealanders on 365 are coping and keeping safe as Cyclone Gabrielle is making her presence felt here over the next couple of days.
It would be good to know how you are all doing.
Thinking especially of those in Northland, Auckland and Coromandel areas who will be getting hit hard tonight!
We are ok in Tauranga, we have our motorhome parked in a reasonably sheltered spot in town, along with a few others. So far we have had some rain and wind but nothing major; we think the worst is to come for us tomorrow afternoon and evening.
I'm North Waikato. Could hear the wind was quite strong during the night, but I've just returned from my usual 5km morning walk, and it wasn't any worse than a mid-winter walk. Although it's raining harder now.
@nickspicsnz@yorkshirekiwi Thanks for checking in, good to hear you’re both ok. I think a lot of homes further north have lost power and/or have more important things to think about than 365 at the moment! We have steady rain (not heavy yet) and the wind has definitely picked up, but expecting worse later. @yorkshirekiwi 5km morning walk? Impressive!!
no indication of foul weather down here in Greymouth, its calm, fine and sunny! but we are expecting strong winds tomorrow. All the best to all affected , hunker down!!
its starting to rev up in Auckland now. Today I went to work and the streets and motorways were almost empty. Took me 24 mins to get to work on a trip that sometimes can take up to an hour on the motorway
In Waitakere ranges, Auckland, winds and rain pretty strong at the moment (Monday afternoon) with then worst to come.
Still have power, so all is okay at the present.
@brigette@kipper1951 hope you stay safe and dry overnight! Its been pretty wild here this evening (and still is now) but supposed to gradually improve.
Was a pretty scary night, but we have come out unscathed. Fortunately we’re about as central as you can get. Although there are trees down, flooding and holes in the road. The people living on the coast have had it far worse. Terrible pictures coming in of houses collapsed. Some communities completely cut off. It feels like being back in lockdown
We’re in Taranaki - just incredibly strong winds for us and the power has only just come back on, so my first coffee of the day is 6 hours overdue, as is my internet access!!! The audacity!!!
Oh, and a big tree down in the middle of the night.
I'm in Northland - we're ok but power has just come on, although plenty don't have it yet. I haven't been able to get into work for the last 2 days, lots of trees down and flooding. We were stocked up with food and had a camping stove for coffee :) Things are starting to calm down now, thankfully. I will post some pictures after I have cooked dinner - if the power stays on.
I'm pleased everyone else seems safe too.
@graemestevens@christinav Great to hear you are both okay. It’s been much nicer in Tauranga today, even some sunshine. We have just visited a local park where two big trees had come down in the storm. We are waiting to hear from family in Napier, we understand they have no power or cellphone coverage and some may have been evacuated due to threat of flooding.
