Thought i'd see if anyones keen to share some of their work - before and afters...

For example,

I wanted to use the women at the well picture in Burkina Faso to get across the community of their lives, but also the hardship and the fact that, however pretty their gathering at the well is, they shouldn't have to strive so hard to survive in the 21st century - I used sepia to suggest poverty of this scale ought to be a thing of the past. The picture itself was poor quality, but seemed to be improved by this and other edits...

I botched an exposure because I was trying to not get thrown out of this place. Hence the really poorly exposed before shot.

heres my before and after infrared photo:

This was a difficult one because of lens flare and reflections in a glass case, but Picnik handled it beautifully.

I love seeing how others edit their photos, but I admit I feel a bit guilty for some of my own radical edits. I have 2 real whoppers, but will see if the first post works before posting twice.

Here is mine. The original just looked a little flat to me so I gave her a 'bump' for texture...

@jinximages I have heard that wedding photographer sometimes like to overexpose their photos to get this effect. Just see how it's done here!! Thanks!

This is the only before/after picture I have because I typically don't save the originals. Perhaps I should?

Yesterday's: I loved the tree, but I shot it with an iPhone from my car window :(
very boring shot

And then I "Seussed" it up a bit...

@viranod Cheers! I love backlit shots, but they are really tricky to get right, and you do have to overexpose them if you want something useful (well, most of the time) unless you have suitable fill-light. It pays to shoot in raw though - otherwise you lose all the highlight detail! :)

@sam_cr Thank you Samantha! :)

@flamez ~ I tried the same general approach, but didn't like the result. I think it's mostly the mother's body position and look of serenity that the cub just doesn't have. Yet. :)

Whoops...I am not keeping my word, am I?
