The Unwritten (until now) 'Photographers Must Do' List

August 30th, 2011
I have often referred to the 'Photographers Must-Do' list, usually questioned by @shanne ;-) so I thought I would start a list of the photographs you simply 'Must-Do' (or ones that inevitably crop up from time to time). This is NOT a criticism if you have already taken shots on the list (cos I certainly have) merely a collection of shots that excercise any photographers mind.

Here we go:

1) Water drop splash
2) Water drop macro on a leaf
3) Sunflower
4) Bubble
5) Traffic trails
6) Fairground blur
7) Coastal sunset
8) Butterflys wings . . . . . please feel free to add your own 9? 10? 11?

September 1st, 2011
Spider webs (so difficult!)
Bokeh
the super close-up eye that actually looks good

Things people need to STOP TAKING PHOTOS OF:
baby in a basket
their lunch
them with their boy/girlfriend on a park bench
themself in a mirror (unless it's unusual)
themself in their underwear (PLEASE)
themself with their friends (unless it's on a timer.)
clasped hands
writing in the sand
a carved tree
themself next to a car/monument/famous location

No offense to anyone who might have posted those, but they're ALL over the internet. Seriously.

Close-up of jewellery or other similar bling.

Not that I'd call myself a photographer or anything but I've certainly tried (and failed) to get that one on more than one occasion!

I'm new to photography, and very much learning...but these ideas are all brilliant (well mostly all!)....trouble is, now to work out how to achieve the photos I see in my mind's eye!
February 7th, 2014
@azza_l yeah, you'll definitely want a large telephoto for that...
February 7th, 2014
@becauseican as someone who's just taken an image of my child in a basket, I was at first really repulsed with this idea. However, since the famliy wanted some images, I figure I'd do the cliche, but I coudlnt bear to do it badly...

I think there's nothign wrong with doing something classic but well :)
February 8th, 2014
All of these are great ideas for me to learn how to do. Thanks to all of the suggestions.
