What Makes You "Fav" a Photo?

October 22nd, 2011
I am curious. What is it that makes you FAV a photo here on 365?

For me, I will usually FAV a photo that presents a unique POV that I would like to shoot myself one day. Or it may be a subject that interests me, or a subject that I'd never thought of shooting. I am always learning from my fellow 365'ers!

Why do you Fav a photo? What was the last photo you FAV'd and why?

I FAV'd this photo for its unique point of view. I love how the open door just draws you into the photo. Thanks to @eleanor for this 'lesson'!

I usually FAV a photo because of the simplicity of the subject and the composition. This is my last one by Bernadine@ehikhee

Fav's for me, come from the gut. If a picture evokes an emotion or are taken in a unique (to me) way.
Love this one from @michaelelliott today.

My choices are also quite holistic- something just speaks to me in the photo- sometimes the lines, sometimes the humour, sometimes the sheer beauty. This is the last one I faved- I like the lines and the symmetry and the mood:

I fav for all sorts of reasons. Normally it's that "wow" when I see it - or if it is cleverly shot / set up. Maybe it will be for something that I know will have taken hours of patience to finally capture, or something that has been edited in a way that I don't know how to do!! One thing is for sure, I know a fav when I see it without thinking!

@wndswptlady Gosh, Linda - thank you for the commnet!

I use the Fav section to collect pictures that give me ideas or instruction I can use to better my own work. This one by @deens reminded me that you can't always wait for serendipity and hope that someone will walk past who will 'make' the picture. Often, you have to arrange a model.

I just loved the colours & the calm feeling from this image :-)

Mostly, it's a shot I'd like to look at again. I'm sometimes stunned by what gets on the popular page - and even the top shots of the week - and similarly amazed at what doesn't! But that's the beauty of personal opinion and what a boring world it would be if we all liked the same thing.

So many things can make me fave a photo. Something that takes my breath away, something I just see as stunning or beautiful. Something I want to try myself or something that makes me laugh (I have quite a lot of those).
This is my latest fav by @sburbidge fav'd as I thought it was just beautiful.

usually one that makes me say "damn I wish I had taken that" images that are packed with emotion, tell a story or are just plain clever.

I like pretty stuff.

Also, if it makes me laugh or smile, I'll usually fav it.

I usually fav things that move me, whether it's a cute kitty or an amazing landscape. I also fav things I would like to try one day. My last FAV though was by a friend @hehe1308 and it just spoke to me on many levels

I fav for all kinds of reasons, but they all boil down to having had an impact on me in some way that I often cannot put into words, but know with my heart. If the subject is not noteworthy in itself (or even when it is), oftentimes the unusual twist put on it by the photographer is what will make it special.
Other times a photo will be really clever, or humorous, or evoke some other strong emotional response in a way I consider very well done.
There are also photos that I don't necessarily like in and of themselves, but will fav because they inspire me with ideas to incorporate into my own shooting or make me think about how I would have done it differently.

I have a variety of different kinds of favs. Ones that make me laugh, ones that take my breath away, or ones that just appeal to me for some reason that I can't put my finger on. My last fave by @jannaellen probably falls into that last category. Perhaps it's because it reminds me of one of my recent photos or perhaps not. Either way, I just liked it.

The photos that I fave are usually shots from which I cannot tear myself away. Shots that I know I will want to look at again and again.

usually if it stirs a positive emotion within.

I fav something that makes me back up and look at it again and maybe another time.

I Fave a photo if it reminds me of a personal memory,

makes me look twice (no pun intended),

or makes me laugh (a "for sure" reason to Fave)

I fav pictures most often because of an initial gut reaction. The gut reaction usually comes from the subject, the compsotion, the colors and all the things that generally make a picture great -- artistically speaking. I tend to fav a lot of the same types of pictures that are edited in the same way. Must just be what I'm drawn to. And I fav something if I find myself coming back to it more than once in a single day. This is my latest fav. I faved it for all the reasons above.

Simple .... I fav shots that I would like to view again. Could be the subject matter, the composition, whatever. They're most likely to be nature shots, but not always. Laurie's mums were my most recent fav! I love the lighting, colours, angle and will look at it often as we head into winter and I'm looking for something cheerful to brighten the day.

Yes, Yes, Yes, I share all your opinions on why I fav! thank you all for sharing!

Something different, colorful, amusing in a unique way, moving, or a powerful image. It seems I favor nature shots and geometric patterns in pictures. But mostly its an image that jumps out and grabs me for some reason. I don't think there's a science to producing favorites. It's more producing pictures that speak to a variety of people- and that's a very subjective thing.

I fave a photo when I find one that I think "I wish I had taken that shot"

This was a recent one I fav'd, primarily because it drew me into the photo. I loved its clarity and intensity. the B/W worked so well with this photo. It belongs to Ade Akinyede, a recent member I began following.

@charli321 - thank you so much!

I FAV a photo if it gives me an immediate visceral response, be that a general 'I wish I'd taken it', or something more specific light fantastic lighting, DoF, technique. Or simply because it makes me sit up in my chair for no particular reason.

My last fav was this one of Gary's (@gurry) - for once, not one of Socks!

I like bokeh, and I love the dreamy quality of the photo. Plus I know it's pretty difficult to get the effect right when the bokeh are the subject of the shot, and this is great.
