Firstly, if street photography makes you run home crying for mommy then you can prob stop reading now :P
Right I happened across this the other night and quite fancy giving it a go, and was wondering if anyone else might be up for it. The actual project finished last year, and the website can be found here
Basically each week a theme was set by a street photographer, and the aim was to take a photo based on that theme. So each week we will work through the themes, post 1 photo for that week and if enough people get involved then have a vote or summit and maybe a Flickr group, or not, who knows.
There will be a couple of rules, those being no fracking camera phone candids (unless an extreme situation) and no telephoto lens.
For those who started to run to mommy but then thought maybe I can give it a go, remember street photography doesn't always have to include people, and also it's really quite easy to do, just grow a pair, man up and start shooting.
It will kick of this Monday (7th May), and each weeks entries must be in by the following Sunday. Then I will post the theme for the following week on the Monday.
Photo's can be tagged "SPN-1, SPN-2" etc, but I will put that in Monday morning post etc. blah blah blah
Hmmm... living in a VERY small town might prove to be a serious issue, but since you said they do not necessarily have to include people, I may give it a go...
@38mm I am game! So what would be the longest lense one could use and stay with in the perameters of the challenge? 55-200mm or are we talking below 55mm? And, basically anything goes as long as you are on the streets of a town or city (but not a country road?) am I right? Buildings, people, animals etc.
@shirljess Lens, um, err, help I wasn't expecting questions ;) I shoot a fixed 38mm lens. Um, ok nothing over 200mm I guess. Though the respect, fast cars and hot chicks will go to those with a shorter focal length.
It will be up to you what you shoot, depending on your interpretation of the theme. So for week one the theme will be....
"If you can smell the street by looking at the photo, it's a street photograph" by Bruce Gilden
Ah, I remember this from before. I tried Week 1 and then forgot. Took a shot of some bins for the "smell". No people, just bins, ooh this could be good all in all. Well done for resurrecting this
@brumbe Well think of this as encouragement to always take your camera with you. Or even better score yourself a film camera off the bay and use that :)
@robinwarner Hopefully you might be able to join in on some of this? Maybe you are not feeling the street thing at the moment, but you have taken some of the best street shots I have ever seen, so would be nice to have you along for the ride.
Ha Ha...You are funny...I wish my mom was still around and I would run for her...OK..I will give it a go...I am not one here that often...but when I am i will do this..thanks so much Jase... :)

this should be interesting... altho' part of me is thinking you should wait for high summer somewhere for this one... you know, when things get REALLY smelly ;p
No telephoto?? Wait, that means I can't hide behind a bin and stalk people? This changes EVERYTHING! I guess I could deal with being looked at funny once a week. I'm in.
@38mm
Oh dear, I could be asking 2 really obvious questions here but
1/ why is using the phone cam not counted?
2/ what is fracking...looked it up got something about gas and oil drilling
I love the idea of this but have always used my phone.
1. Mainly because I said so, and also walking around pretending to text and phone someone whilst taking candids does not make you a street photographer
2. Thats me being nice and polite, replace fracking with f@*&ing and it should make sense
I will see if I can get the nerves under control. I did some street photogrphy through my first year, but I'm hardly brave enough...
And grow a pair? I don't know if i want that!!!
Jase, for the artist challenge they set up a used so the assignment and a sample could be posted on their page and people could follow the chaw gs without it getting lost in the discussion latest area.
@brumbe Good call Paula :) I will create an account and tag everyone who has replied here so they can follow. I will also do a forum post on Mondays as well so new people can join in at later dates as well.
also, my mommy lives like 400 miles away. and i'm too lazy to run that far.
It will be up to you what you shoot, depending on your interpretation of the theme. So for week one the theme will be....

I am usually in the vein of people who would "run home to mummy"... Time to grow a pair, I'm in!!
Thanks @beeblebear for the head's up!

@monika64 You'll have to hide behind those bushes with your camera :P
And grow a pair? I don't know if i want that!!!
