Hi everyone!!! Thank you so much for all the votes in the Levin Rodriguez challenge:) So excited to be hosting my favorite challenge here on 365 again!
For those of you who haven't participated in this challenge it's a great time to learn about different artists as well as improve, explore and practice your love of making images.
The rules are fairly simple: study the chosen artist/genre (Google will help you here) and then :
Take a photograph recreating a particular work as closely as possible to the original or photograph something in a style that is reminiscent of his/her work- mood, light, composition, colour. Or you could just take a concept from his/her work and make it your own. Have fun!
Challenge starts today Friday May 3 and goes through next Thursday the 16th 10:00pm (pst)
You may also post your photo’s on this thread.
I look forward to seeing many photos from the very talented folks on 365!

For this artist challenge I have picked Jerry Uelsmann.
THE CAMERA IS ESSENTIALLY A LICENSE TO
EXPLORE.
JERRY UELSMANN
Uelsmann is a master printer, producing composite photographs with multiple negatives and extensive darkroom work. He uses up to a dozen enlargers at a time to produce his final images, and has a large archive of negatives that he has shot over the years. The negatives that Uelsmann uses are known to reappear within his work, acting as a focal point in one work, and background as another. Similar in technique to Rejlander, Uelsmann is a champion of the idea that the final image need not be tied to a single negative, but may be composed of many.
Today, with the advent of digital cameras and Adobe Photoshop, photographers are able to create a work somewhat resembling Uelsmann's in less than a day, however, at the time Uelsmann was considered to have almost "magical skill" with his completely analog tools. At the time Uelsmann's work first came to popular attention, photos were still widely regarded as unfalsifiable documentary evidence of events. However, Uelsmann, along with Lucas Samaras, was considered an avant garde shatterer of this popular mindset and help to expand the artistic boundaries of photography.
Despite his works' affinity with digital techniques, Uelsmann continues to use traditional equipment. “I am sympathetic to the current digital revolution and excited by the visual options created by the computer. However, I feel my creative process remains intrinsically linked to the alchemy of the darkroom.
Obviously we don't all have photoshop or the luxury of our own dark room but I encourage you to have fun and get creative and inspired by this talented and interesting artist. Here is an example of something inspired by Jerry Uelsmann I've put together without photoshop or the darkroom today using some free online tools (picmonkey) and scissors. Don't run away if you don't have fancy editing skills or tools, use whatever you have to push your creativity.

tagging if you've participated before or were on the list. If you know anyone who you think would like this challenge or your not on the list and want to be in the future please let them or me know:)
Thank you @colie for a wonderful challenge (although I don't know if I'm up to it!). I've always LOVED Jerry Uelsman, a true visionary who was one of my inspirations back when I was a kid with a darkroom (I'm not any longer!), I always loved the haunted feeling I got from his pictures/visions. I recently watched a fascinating documentary about him and his wife Maggie Taylor (also a wonderful photography artist) called "This is not photography" on Lynda.com. It's a paid service, but there are several free extracts of the documentary, including the trailer, so if it's okay I'm posting the link if anyone is interested.
@omabluebird I'm fine with that as long as all of the images are yours and you are putting them together and creating your piece in the time frame of the challenge:)
@sunshinephoto5 looks beautiful on my small phone:) cant wait to see it large when my son finally gives me back my computer! :) not too late, you got it in with a day to spare! Great job!
@colie Sorry I missed this one - right up my alley! Just had too much going on at the time. Absolutely amazing entries and I don't know how you narrowed it down!

Gave me a chance to do some in-camera multiple exposure practise! Post processing: curves and vignette :)
I think I've enjoyed my first challenge too much!
Only just really getting into processing like this and the artist's challenges give you something to work towards :D
@colie whew! got it in on time I hope!
