It’s time for some serious ACTION here on 365! Recently, my husband told me about a trend in photography called Makandosappo (AKA Hadouken), where one figure in the frame poses in a striking pose while the other figure(s) pose in a struck pose (usually midair as if a fireball or some kind of virtual energy wave hit them). If it sounds comic bookish or you are reminded of anime or street fighting scenes or the Dragon Ball franchise, well, you are on the right track! It’s hip, it’s fun, it’s downright addictive!
When my husband told me about Hadouken, I had very little time to even think of doing such a shot, but I was working on a Camera Settings Challenge at the time on AI Servo (yeah, moving targets, perfect!). For Mother’s Day (May 12 in the U.S.), my family agreed to let me try my hand at this style of photography and we had a total blast at our local park for about an hour or so. We laughed the entire time trying to create a dramatic scene where two people flung high in the air as result of a “fire ball” being hurled at them by the central figure (hero/villain—who knows)!
Here is a video called “How to do ‘Hadouken’ Photography”:

And her is a wiki link about Makandosappo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makankosappo You’ll note on this site, you can see samples with LOTS of participants—you can just go wild with it! It’s summer for me folks, so I’m going to start hadoukening the summer away! Wanna join in?
This challenge will run from Today, June 2 and will end it June 23rd—that’s three weeks to get you some willing friends/strangers/kids/anyone to have some fun and challenge your photography skills!
Tag your photos 365Hadouken and post them here in this thread as you take them!
I KNOW 365ers could do this one up worldwide—it’s already a huge trend in Japan where it originated, but it’s taking off elsewhere, and why not make it a 365 category? Part of the fun is really seeing what you can do with the idea, so here are my mother’s day samples to help you along with this challenge’s idea (please note, I’m beginner photographer, learning as I go, so quality is not there YET):

@spair It is custom-made for kids. All those "family portraits" everyone says kids just won't do. Try this and you will not have a single whiner in the group! :)
@tealgarciaphotography yes, find them and see what they can do! You can use chairs, etc. to help get height (we used picnic tables for launching in my photos; they are just cropped out!). The links (although I can't get them to work in the description) are good places to start! :)
@jyokota YES @vankrey, most definitely. And then pack me in the bags so I can help photo it all (of course, with my Japanese speaking child too!). PLLLLEEEAAASE do this!
@darylo -- Wouldn't that be fun !!??!! I'm telling you, our 20 teens are going to be rolling their eyes while MVK and I photograph everything from all different angles. And practicing at different settings. And changing lenses. And . . . . oh, all right. we'll try to not make them crazy. Even before joining 365, we have been known to take about 1000 photos EACH --- per week!
@vankrey@jyokota Perhaps tell them about it on the plane--they can come up with a scene and pre-plan! They will love it, I think. When we did it at the park, I didn't have a single eye-roll!
@masosy GREAT JOB! The angle too also really works well! I bet there is a kid who really enjoyed this (and a hubby too!). Thanks so much for participating in the challenge! Love how the crocs stayed on as well!
@darylo Thanks so much. I appreciate you putting the challenge out there. You provided some great info and your photos were inspiring, just had to try it.
@vankrey WOW! Thanks so much for participating in the challenge. You and @jyakota have done a stellar job getting SO MANY folks in the air at one time and in focus!
@darylo Finally got the chance to have a go at this - what a fun idea it was! Here's the best result, I called it 'girl power'... Cathy loved it! :) Thanks for the inspiration Daryl
@filsie65 What a great perspective! Love the light in the background and the perfect action in the air and her confidence! :). I also love the mismatched socks. Sorry, that is such a signature of my girls and their socks! And I LOVE it. His face is perfect!!!! Thanks so much for participating. Tell both of them, awesome job. Awesome job to photographer of course!!!
This was taking last winter when the grandkids were in the hottub...the squeals of delight coming from the tub could be heard all over the neighbourhood for sure!
