First of all, thank you for your comments and votes on my photo 'Hands' for the Alfred Stieglitz challenge. As some of you know, it was my very first challenge, and a very fun experience! I'd love to thank Colie @colie who was a wonderful host, and whose detailed and very useful explanation of the challenge tempted me into it :)
For all of you that are new to this challenge, it's quite simple - you get a chance to learn something about the author, and then you need to take your camera and take/create a photo that's representing the author's work. How you'll do it – that's totally up to you! And that's the best part of it! It's a fun way to learn something new about different photographers, painters, artists... and about photography in general. Not to mention you get a nice to practice with your camera, lol
So, for the next artist challenge we will stay in the world of b&w photography, only this time we'll have to deal with a living author, an English photographer Michael Kenna.
As you will see (or perhaps already know), Michael Kenna is a landscape photographer who often creates a very special atmosphere with the use of minimalism and negative space. He's also known for the use of extra long exposures and ethereal light (at dawn or at night).
You can watch a very short interview (and get to see some of his photographs) here: link
************************** IMPORTANT:
- Challenge starts today Monday 15th Jul, and ends Mon 22nd Jul at 23:59 GMT. All photos must be taken between these dates.
- Please, tag your photos: ac-kenna
- Feel free to post your photos on this thread too.
I look forward to seeing your photos, and.... have fun!
„I often think of my work as visual haiku. It is an attempt to evoke and suggest through as few elements as possible rather than to describe with tremendous detail.“ M. Kenna
@colie Colie, do you think this is OK? If you have any suggestions just let me know...
Also, do I need to notify people that usually participate in the challenge? (If so, how do I do it?)
Once again, thanks :)))
@fueast Hm, good point Alison, I didn't really think of that... it would definitely be much easier in the winter. I guess that makes this challenge a bit easier for all those from the southern hemisphere (hear that @kali66?)
One of my favourite photographers, who has influenced my B+W work massively, especially with me living near Ratcliffe Power Station, which he sho tso many times. I am going away on holiday on wednesday, so may not be able to get a shot done. Aaargh!! Will try, if not will enter an archive shot but disqualify myself from the competition element of the theme.
@lunaksi Wonderful choice! Great job putting it all together and attaching so many informative links! Looks like you figured out the tags as well:) Can't wait to start channeling Michael Kenna!
Thanks for the tag! This looks like a great challenge. I will have to check out his work, although I'm on limited car use this week, so I'm looking forward to seeing how I can recreate his style in my home.
Cool! I just found me a likely nearby minimalist spot courtesy of Google maps. Gonna go attack it with my camera tomorrow! Thanks @lunaksi ! Nice choice!
This is not your typical Kenna shot. But I am housebound this week, so I thought to myself, "If Kenna was to do interior shots, what would they look like?" This is what I came up with.
@so_lo_webb Lois, you can join anytime, the only thing you have to do is tag the photo(s) that you upload - this week's tag is: ac-kenna.
I'll add you to the list of participants and hopefully you'll get a notice for the future artist challenges...

@amysgotapillow Oh, I love that pic, Amy!

But I really hope you'll give it a try...
