Thanks for everyone who voted for my black&white clouds picture in the last tag challenge. I really like all the other entries, so congratulations and well done to all the finalists and thanks to Barbara for hosting.
I really like this challenge because you don't know what you get until you pick the tags and trying to create a picture with randomly selected tags means your creative brain gets a good workout.
Why wait? Let's begin the next challenge and have more tag fun.
Here's how it works:
Go to the "Browse" section and then select the "By Tag" link. Close your eyes and randomly click on a tag. Do it again (and no peeking)! These two tags will become your photo assignment. You will then use your two randomly chosen tags as an inspiration to create one picture that encompasses both tags. Please CLEARLY state your two tags when you post your entries, as this will let me know what your assignment was. You may submit more than one entry.
For this challenge, if you chose a set of words that you feel it would be impossible to do anything with, rather than skip the challenge all together, you may opt for the host’s tag words of “Girl” and “Leaves” (selected randomly as above). I know... but that's the fun part of this challenge.
Start of challenge: Thursday, July 18th, 2013
End of challenge: Friday, July 26th, 2013, 23:59 CST
Voting starts: Saturday, July 27th, 2013, 00:00 CST
Voting ends: Monday, July 29th, 2013 23:59 CST
NOTE - Photos must be taken within the challenge time frame to be considered for a vote.
The number of finalists will be chosen depending on number of entries. The winner will host challenge #79.
Please remember to tag all entries as tag-challenge-78 so that I can find them.
Please share them in this thread (optional) so everyone else can enjoy them too. You can also see all the pictures entered for this challenge here:
Not having cat does make it tough. But, that's when we think creatively, right? Fiance playing in the bushes like a cat, haha! See you are already in the groove. Good luck.
It sounds complicated, but bokeh is very simple to achieve.
Here is my explanation of how to get bokeh in simple words:
Take the fastest lens you have (low aperture like f2.8) and focus on any object with some lights far away in the back, you get bokeh. If you don't have faster lens, just increase the distance between the object you are focusing and the lights.
The quality of bokeh (shape, size etc.) is a whole different topic but that's all there is to get simple bokeh. Hope that helped a bit.
Thanks for playing and let me know if you need any other help.
@teamquavers I'm impressed. That is perfect for your tags. Great bokeh you achieved on your first attempt. And that shadowed areas are absolutely abstract. Well done.
@linc Man + street Is great... This is a good opportunity to get a taste of street photography if you haven't done it before. You can take a candid or make it a captivating street portrait by asking them permission. Have fun!
@luvmynynix Laurie, snow is tough on a 96 degrees day, but it's not impossible as I just came to know. How did you do that? Great job and very creative. :-)
@ikamera That is my daughter's hand inside the bright yellow tube slide in our yard. I made it b&w and upped the contrast, then I added a black layer in Photoshop and added noise to it so that it resembled the fuzzy screen you get when your tv is not working properly. It reminds me a little of the movie Poltergeist...hence the title! :) Glad you like it! Thanks!
Thanks for understanding. To top it off, I've only had 3 hours of sleep. I was up until 3am setting up and trying rim lighting for the technique challenge. That's the only time I get to do these experiments when kids are in bed. :-)
@ikamera Ah yes, I totally understand! lol I was obsessed with water droplets for a while...put the baby to bed and proceeded to take hundreds of shots! lol I just saw your rim lighting shot! Love it! Going back to comment now!
Black & white and children. Oh, dear. I don't have any. Hmmm....Who can I approach for permission to photograph their kids and post here? Maybe I don't have to interpret so strictly -- get creative with this. I'll see what I can come up with.
@tracys Tracy, that was a good selfie. It made me smile in a good way. Like your expression there. Thanks for your entry.
@mcsiegle Yes, don't have to interpret strictly. You can use toys or theme from kids stories. I'll let you get creative with this. I'll look forward to see what you do.
@ikamera So far more cop-out than creative. Here's my first attempt at B&W and Children (Me and my siblings. I'm the one on the far left):
I also put a slightly different version on the next day:
I like the one without the Madonna statue better but then had some good old Catholic guilt over leaving out the Blessed Virgin statue that my mother likes so much. So I posted both.
If I am able, I'll make another attempt at these tags.
@ikamera It's been a crazy last few days--I wasn't able to pull off what I was envisioning, BUT i did grab my camera and shoot a few just for the challenge. I couldn't decide which one I like best, both could use some more attention but I have to get to bed now. :)
After I upload the picture, it goes to the message that says "You have uploads waiting to be organised, Click Here to organise them." like it always does. But when I click on it, it just reloads the homepage. I have tried it several times on both the computer and my smart camera. Any ideas?
@linc I know street photography is not easy, but you did good. I like the sign.
@misterkitty I like both, but my fav is the rough one because you found it on the road and it has nice tonal variation. I can just feel the roughness. :-)
@aprilv April, I'm sorry I couldn't help you out in time(it's Saturday morning for us and I was sleeping), but glad you figured it out. You got very nice selective coloring there.
@picturedrox I really like the first one, thanks for your explanation on how you did it. I should try it sometime.

I love this challenge so I'm back in with Cat + Reflection.
We don't have a cat but I'll see what I can do, otherwise I can see my fiance playing in the bushes....

This is a simple and good YouTube video that I learned bokeh with.

The tags I got are girl and leaves.
It's your turn now. Let's get the creative juices flowing.

@ilanga you tagged it differently, that's why I couldn't see your pics in the list. It should just be 'tag-challenge-78'.
I know it's a bit confusing because there is the word 'tag' in your tag. Just copy and paste it.
Here is Blue + Texture : Soft
Here is Blue + Texture : Rough
