artist challenge #73- Mari Mahr

Hello everybody , lets get started with a new artist challenge. I have chosen Mari Mahr who was born in 1941 in chile to Hungarian Jewish parents escaping world war II Europe. She was then raised in Hungary and has lived her adult life in London and Berlin

She is known for her black and white images in which she combines 2d prints with 3d objects and rephotographs them, producing surreal and illusory imagery. Her themes are dreams, memory, family relationships, journeys and diaspora

I am allowing a good amount of time for this challenge as it will involve alot of creative thinking and time to assemble things so starting today June 2/3 and running until Friday 13 June

anything inspired by Mari Mahr's work, whether subject matter, technique or themes can be tagged ac-mahr ( please note I am going back to the old tagging system as it is shorter!)

Oh my goodness! This one here: http://v1.zonezero.com/exposiciones/fotografos/mahr/georgia/06.html it reminds me of a my presentation piece I did for baking school. I made an old Ford pick-up out of marzipan, and a highway out of chocolate, and a white chocolate Route 66 road sign. Ha ha, now I have to join this challenge. I don't know if I'll make anything out of chocolate though. Maybe.

I tried a recreation except backwards. I think she made her flag bigger whereas I (remembering incorrectly) made the flag smaller.

Kali, does the background 2d photo have to be my own or I can photograph a 3d object against any picture background?

@ikamera whatever works for you Kiran, I thought magazine pictures, postcards, old photos... all could work,

Ok, that's better. If the background has to be mine, I'll never get around to printing the appropriate one and retaking the final. Have to appreciate the artist for her vision.

My view on the challenge, have done this as B&W but am going to upload a secondary version with isolated colour, as i am not totally happy with how the black and white works?
