We’ve noticed that there have been variations in how the F-word challenge is set up. On some rounds, the previous winners picked the next winner, and on some rounds, there have been a vote set up with a number of finalists and then the winner was picked based on the number of votes. We’ve talked a bit about it on latest f-word discussion thread (HERE ), and it looked like it would be great to have everyone’s input on this.
So, in order to clarify the rules for the F-word challenge for the sake of future organizers, which option do you think should be the rule:
Option A:
To have the last round’s winner to go through the entries for the ongoing round and pick a winner. Pros: faster “turnaround”, sometimes there were not too many entries to start with anyway. Cons: less publicity for the challenge, less “democratic” process
Option B:
To have the last round’s winner to pick 5 favorites and set up a vote. Pros: people who don’t participate, still look in to vote and maybe get interested in participating next time. Cons: takes more time for a “turnaround” of the challenge.
Option C:
To leave it as it is – let the winner decide whether they want to pick a winner or to set up a vote. Pros: flexible system, can be applied depending on how many entries are there. Cons: might be confusing for the winners when they set up a vote, especially if they are new on the site.
B. Vote. I think this promotes the "community" idea of 365project and also gives you a chance to see the work of people you may not be following and then decide to follow them.
@vera365 -am surprised & glad that the "f-word" challenge's still going on-Thanks Vera for the update,I like option B though,l'll be happy to join & vote:):)
Just a thought - even huge prestigious photo events are decided by more than one person. B sounds fine, it works for all the other "theme challenges" here. Why should this be different?
Although I don't participate often, I quite like the change of a quick turnaround every week, something different to the other challenges and as others have said, there aren't often enough entries for a vote.
I vote for A
B... but if, often, there are fewer than five entries - maybe that issue should be addressed first! I admit to sometimes feeling a touch of 'challenge fatigue' on here, with the result that I don't participate as often as I otherwise might.
I vote A. I like having less time between challenges and care less about who is selected winner and more about just seeing what everyone does with the challenge and I agree that selecting 5 for a vote is kind of pointless when there are few entrie.
B. I enjoy voting and seeing if the finalists are ones that I would have picked if I was hosting it. I was disappointed that I couldn't vote on the feline F word challenge because they were all so lovely. Unless I somehow missed the voting!?
I think C, but with an emphasis for voting. I was one of those "chosen" to win, very much to my surprise. But considering the circumstance, I understand. The previous host had pulled double duty; first hosting his own challenge (which was voted on), then hosting it again on behalf of the winner, who was undergoing cancer treatments and may not have been able to keep the challenge alive. I imagine he was more than ready to be rid of the obligation by the end of the second round. Let the host decide.
Thank you so much for your input and opinions,
So, it looks like from the answers that expressed preference for one or another option, we have
A (winner picks a winner) - 2 votes
B (winner picks finalists for a vote) - 10 votes
C (winner decides how to run it based on number of entries) - 3 votes
Looks like the preferred version is to try an have finalists for the vote. If there are not many entries, maybe put them all for a vote and let the voters decide. This will make this challenge consistent with the other challenges on 365. Also, to make a turn-around quicker, the voting time can be limited to one or two days - from the experience, that's when the majority of votes for any challenge comes in anyway. Later on, the topic drops down from the "recent" visible ones and almost no votes come in for the rest of the week.
@llindi - I hope this info will help you with setting up the next challenge as well.
@joemuli I loved this when it was just a month long... !!
I vote for A
