The 365 technique challenge helps you get to know your camera & learning new in-camera techniques. Most of us have a long and (generally expensive) photographic ‘wish list’, but this challenge is about channelling your inner MacGyver, and creating a free, or super cheap, creative focus modifier! Whatever type of camera you use you can can join in.
What type of effect?
Look through the Lensbaby challenge images at http://365project.org/tags/lb14 and find an effect that appeals to you. See how the creative use of focus directs the viewer’s attention to certain areas. Study where in the image the focus is modified, then consider how you can create that look. Hunt through your house & wardrobe to find something at hand.
There are lots of different styles of focus modifying – see http://lensbaby.com/usa/faq.php and see how they have matched the subject and type of image with the modifying effect.
You can you achieve an effect similar to the one demonstrated here from @aprilmilani by using your ingenuity. These focus shifting effects are more natural when created in-camera rather than using editing.
Images must not use a real lensbaby lens (of course!) and are to be taken between 12 April 2016 and Sunday 1st May 2016. Don’t forget to tag them technique56
and to share your inventiveness with the community, include a description or photo of your modifying equipment, and perhaps post a before-after comparison?
So..... if you have ever wanted to buy a special lacy pair of ladies tights or personal lubricant, “for photographic purposes”, here is your chance……embrace imperfect focus, think outside the box and have some fun on this challenge ;-D
Well here is my first attempt. Went on a little walk the weather was nice and I took a sandwich bag, tore a slit and placed it over the lens. I moved to adjust over the area I wanted in focus. It was a fun technique to ry thank you Lyn for such a great idea for a challenge.
