I have decided to do a half and half project for the month of May.
I have seen some very creative half and half photos (photos that have two distinctive elements within the one photo, think red and green apples side by side or a stone path and grass) which have encouraged me to be on the lookout for potential half and half objects. Of the photos I have seen, the images are normally shown as vertical images. Some photos have been shot landscape format and then turned sideways when processed.
mmm now i really like the look of those. i'm not sure i would see the opportunities for one every day, but it might be the kind of challenge where you see such photos everywhere once you're looking out :)
@nicolecampbell Really interesting idea and the images are really cool...I'm going to be on the lookout for this and hopefully, will be able to jump in there too. Thanks for the great idea!
That certainly is an interesting challenge, and the photos on Instagram are beautiful in the square format! I had never heard of this, but will now be looking for opportunities to try it out.
@nicolecampbell
I'm looking forward to starting as well.
I've been trying a few shots already to get me into the mode and I seem to be hooked, so I might manage a whole month, but let's see how it goes!
This looks like a lot of fun. I think I may start a brand new album for monthly challenges. Hopefully I'll spot something inside the house I can start the challenge with today :)
@psychographer - I am sure you will be able to find lots of things in your house, looking out your kitchen window with a wall as one part of the photo would be a good image, especially if you lovely tree is in view. xx
@nicolecampbell Will you please clarify if these images are supposed to be two images connected together or one image shot with two different halves. I may not be making this clear. The one I posted tonight was one shot composed to look like two different photos combined. Did I do it right or not?
@grammyn - it is one image that has parallel lines (shot with two different halves such as a path and grass next to each other or red apples and green apples next to each other) but you can do it anyway you like.
Here's my first 'posted' attempt - many others already tried to get the hang of it!
From my research on the internet, the half and half can be done with composition, with an specific dividing line (either vertical, horizontal, or diagonal), by balancing two opposing visual elements such as light and shadow, colour and monotone, sharp focus juxtaposed with shallow dof.
@nicolecampbell Thanks for starting this Nicole - it's really interesting to look for them. Hope it's OK to just contribute the odd photo rather than do the full month? Cheers.
First go - 3 buildings in one:
@nicolecampbell Question: so is the challenge to do one everyday for the month of May or just a few sprinkled in here and there? I've done a couple so far and tagged them halfandhalf.
I shall see if I can join you, maybe not for the whole month, but where I can find opportunities.
I know because I have tagged many images b&w.
b&w show up if you browse tagged images, but it is because there are so many with that tag.
count me in
Looking forward to starting this challenge tomorrow. Thanks to Bill I( will change the tag to halfandhalf. Can't wait to see your photos.
