So Hope Russell @herussell came up with a great June challenge, and I wasn't sure if people would remember to start it today, so I wanted to set up a thread for the Theme.
Here's what she says about it:
For the month of June I will be photographing something I'm grateful for each day. I made a gratitude list to help if I get stuck. I'm excited. I think it will be rewarding in a lot of ways.
I know several of you did a month of self portraits in May. You all have done a beautiful job. Would anyone like to join me for a gratitude challenge in June?
Well, I'm in! Let's tag these junegratitude
And, don't forget to post them here so everyone can see!
I seem to be the first one with that tag, so here goes my first gratitude picture: it's a thank you dance for all of you on this site, performed by me and my little green alien, who is not to little in this picture.
I'm going to try this. I need some inspiration. Thanks. I do wish I had done the self-portraits as it seemed to be a total riot. I've been busy and lazy--if that's possible to be at the same time.
My house! Good way to start. :) I am coming up on my first year anniversary of buying my house. I took a pic of my bedroom door yesterday. Fits well I think!
I'm in - and will be overlapping it with the last 4 days of my A-Z mini-project at the beginning of the month! Yet to take today's W pic .. but have an idea for it! :o)
Just sitting and brainstorming some of the things I could try and capture for the theme has put me in a much more appreciative, happy frame of mind - and the month has only just begun! Happy Gratitude capturing, everyone :o)
I've got a list made already and will try to stick to the theme every day. For one week in June we'll be on a holiday on a gorgeous island. So I'm sure I'll find something there to be grateful for! :-D
@amyhughes There's a problem with tagging with the hyphen. The browse, search also gets you everything tagged with just the word June - which is nearly all photos. I get 3,500 photos when I search for June-Gratitude. Either Gratitude or Junegratitude as one word would net the results we want to see.
The link in the first post only gets you the first 11.
It was a very LONG and cold winter. I am grateful for the weather finally turning around. My dog is grateful as well, for we are able to play ball again. :)
@annielf If you type it in as http://www.365project.org/tags/june-gratitude it comes up with exactly those tagged that way, it's more specific that way. Or if you click on a tag that is on someone's photo, it also does the same. The search catches all the words you've used.
If it makes it easier, we can only tag it junegratitude, that's totally fine with me :) That means the 14 people that have already posted with the hyphen tag will have to change it.
Hey you guys! It seems the junegratitude tag would be easier to search...can you guys rename your tags please? That way no one has the hyphen anymore, and we're all one tag and streamlined to search. Super easy! I can't wait to take today's picture :D And I'm glad to be inspired again!! (Thanks Hope!)
@amyhughes Hi Amy, after posting my own picture I read about how we have to change the tag. Maybe you can edit that also in the first start-message of this discussion, that's what most people (like me) read. I love this challenge already!
I am grateful for my journey home
I am very lucky and very grateful that my 25 minute journey home now is 90% very countryfied country lanes. It takes me up in to the hills you see in the picture and through two little villages, past one wild garlic grove and many sheep, cows, horses and ducks. This journey home, and equally to work, is about 5 minutes longer than the more direct route, but I would still take it if it were 10 minutes longer as it's beauty is amazing and with the right music on the ipod it reinforces what exactly is important in my life. These shots were taken via my iPhone and the hipstamatic app.
I've bookmarked this discussion, so I don't have to go looking for it when it falls off the bottom of the list. I'm loving seeing and reading other people's gratitude, and want to keep on reading them through the month
I'm grateful to Hope for suggesting this whole idea, and setting off this wave of gratitude around 365 :o) @herussell
I love this theme! Here is mine for today. I am so grateful that as a teacher I have a summer break. Today was the last day with the kids this school year!
My little guy has given me so much to be grateful for; I never knew how much love and wonder could be in my life before he came along. Parenthood truly makes you grateful.
Not sure I'll do the whole month but at least it will give me ideas.
I'm grateful that we live next to the creek. This is the view from the back yard, looking east.
My gratitude for the first day of the challenge has a quote that says it all - “May you have the hindsight to know where you've been, The foresight to know where you are going, And the insight to know when you have gone too far” - Irish Blessing
Today I am thankful for a little one who is sleeping soundly. It must be hard being 1 and getting three new teeth at once (one of which I believe is a molar). So I am so thankful she is able to sleep well. She is also so precious when she's asleep
Day 1: I'm grateful for music and the ability it has to move the soul.
I'm actually doing junegratitude and A-Z this month so I'll be doing my best to incorporate both challenges into one photo each day instead of two. Which might be quicker, though I doubt it'll make it any easier, lol. After how lousy I did with the May self portrait challenge
(8 out of 31) I wanted to push myself this month.
@amyhughes I would love to participate in this theme, but I am unsure of how to actually post photos in the theme. If you put "junegratitude" in the tag line do they automatically show up here? Or is there another step you have to take? Thanks!
@lauriehiggins Hi Laurie! Yes, there is another step to put them in here. For the tagging, it would be if someone just searches that tag so they can look at them from that page. To post them on here you go to your photo you want to post, then on the bottom right there is a small box that says Share and has some code in it. Copy all that code and past it in the reply box here and voila! :)
Without knowing the June challenge, I posted this photo for June 1st. Of course, I had to go back and tag it! I am grateful to all our servicemen and women who are serving and have served to protect our freedoms!
I would love to give this challenge a go. Loved the video that inspired it too. I am grateful for this beautiful soul who brings me so much joy every day.
@amyhughes: There seems to be a mix-up with the tags: Some people tag "junegratitude" and others "june-gratitude", so they cannot be searched all at once. For which one should we settle?
Day 1 - I am very grateful for clean water since millions don't have access.
Day 2 - Looks materialistic but since it creates art and pleasure, I'd say it's the equivalent of a paintbrush and canvas, or a piano, or sculpting clay....
I am so thankful for the beauty found in flowers and nature. If you check out my album it will probably be pretty obvious. I'm like a kid in the candy store - except my "candy" is flowers and the beauty of nature! :)
@amyhughes@herussel This is a great idea! I have been slacking a lot lately and let other things get in the way........like work. Ugh! Also, I am in need of positive vibes so I'm sure this challenge will put be right back on track. You guys are awesome! I love all the photos I am seeing!
Day 1: Grateful for intelligent shows that keep me away from stupid reality shows and dumb celebrity gossip. Man, sometimes they are hard to resist! Harharhar!
Day 2: Grateful for shortcuts! Makes life so easy for terrible cooks like me!
I'm thankful for being able to relax with family in our back yard, and thankful for a comfy hammock and a puppy who loves me! (enough to climb into my lap even though he's almost 80lbs!)
Grateful for fun times at home hanging out with the family... Today was a crazy day, so had to use a filler picture from earlier this spring, before the leaves came in on the trees...which makes me think how grateful I am too for trees, and leaves and the warmer weather of June!!
Great theme!!! I will explore a bit more definately.
I am grateful for online stock agencies for giving me the opportunity to pursue a career in photography that is perfectly suited for me!
It is a true joy and calling!
This is my Month of May collage of work submissions.
At the beginning of each month I will put together a new collage of previous months images I submitted for sale to the agencies.
Today - I'm very thankful for the opportunity to be a leader at our youth group, Luma Generation. Our youth have a heart for their city, school and the world that is inspiring.
I'm grateful to have been born in a free country. We may be flawed, and some may say we're not actually "free," but we are a lot more free than many people born in other parts of the world.
At 63, my mom is the greatest inspiration.
She had arthritis, was 100 pounds overweight,
and had bad eczema in her ear for 30 years.
She became vegan 6 years ago, and since exercises daily,
and has healed her life.
She weighs 105 lbs and stands 5 feet tall.
The eczema is completely gone. The doctor couldn't find a trace of it!
She has no arthritis, proven. 6 years ago, she couldnt bend her painting thumb, and the doctor wanted to fuse her thumb to her hand to ease the pain.
She also had arthritis hip pain. Exercising and clean diet completely reversed it and her doctors have changed their views of human willpower and lifestyle changes because of her. She has inspired 2 doctors to become more passionate about their research and now inspire older patients with her hope.
Half of her thyroid issues have healed, she is on the path to heal completely and repair her thyroid. I know she will be able to stop taking the medicine.
The doctor has confirmed it looks like she may be on the way off the medicine,
after 10 years of being on the medication!
Why doesn't everyone experience these dramatic results?
They can, but they don't work hard enough to enjoy the healing benefits.
It's hard work and persistence at any age.
There are 90 year olds in marathons who train for years, even after experiencing illnesses. Illness can reverse. But it takes work. Diet is 50% and Exercise is the other 50%.
I snapped these of my mom today.
Click magnifying glass for close ups.
She just turned 63 on June 1st.
We workout everyday and we're both vegan.
She works out 2 hours a day.
I work out 30 mins to an hour a day on the elliptical but trying to catch up!
A healthy lifestyle is self gratitude!
My mom exudes self gratitude and it dramatically influences everyone she encounters. People can't help but smile in her presence, because she is truly grateful and respects herself and her life by taking excellent care of herself!
I'm thankful for a kind easygoing dog. He lies on the floor beside the sofa when I'm not well. He doesn't grumble about not being walked every day. He doesn't judge me. He plays with my children and keeps them safe.
Grateful for firefighters. My husband is a volunteer firefighter, and I imagined this photo after his pager went off at midnight last night. Then it was funny, as I was uploading this to 365...the pager went off - and out the door he went!
I'm thankful for my dad who planted these roses, my grandparents who tend to them so diligently and my little cousin who helped me take pictures today!
Grateful for goodtimes and traditions. My daughter and her friends have made a tradition of burning schoolwork on the last day of school. It's a stretch for the Gratitude project, however, I had to take this shot.
The whole June gratitude is really making me look inside myself. Though finding the photos is not exactly hard, but the writing to go alongside the photos is very deep and at times I am literally finding myself shedding tears as I write the editorials for the shots.. Anyone else experiencing this?
Day 1/7: "Clean and Bright Now That the Fog is Gone"
I am thankful for my neighbor, Leon; he cleaned the oxidized headlight lens on my car (it took him three times to get it all off) without me asking him to do it.
I am grateful for Tim Burton. He is my favorite director and I love everything he does! This is my Q for Queen. She is from the Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories. Happiness!!! :)
I'm about 1/2 through the month and this has been quite an experience so far!! Thanks 365 peeps for helping me to see the beauty in my life....I am challenged to finish the month...guess I better go looking for a photo!!!
My house! Good way to start. :) I am coming up on my first year anniversary of buying my house. I took a pic of my bedroom door yesterday. Fits well I think!
innocence and wonder in my children:)
I was excited for this first day. Today I'm grateful for things that are old and things that are new. (My caption explains it better)
Just sitting and brainstorming some of the things I could try and capture for the theme has put me in a much more appreciative, happy frame of mind - and the month has only just begun! Happy Gratitude capturing, everyone :o)
1 Question though - do I need to separately post them here or just tag them in the edit option??
The link in the first post only gets you the first 11.

EDIT: Saw you already did that, sorry!!!

@herussell
in all honesty, I will probably not do all 30 days in June because sometimes a photo comes up that I cannot pass up by only sticking to a theme.
I'm grateful that we live next to the creek. This is the view from the back yard, looking east.
I'm grateful for little birds.
I'm actually doing junegratitude and A-Z this month so I'll be doing my best to incorporate both challenges into one photo each day instead of two. Which might be quicker, though I doubt it'll make it any easier, lol. After how lousy I did with the May self portrait challenge

The gift of music.
Sunsets... Let's me know I have lived thru another day.

and June 2nd: I am grateful for the postal service:
They probably make a little more sense with the captions.
yesterday:
i am grateful for my boyfriend's handiness.
And I am grateful for daily provision:
Day 1 - I am very grateful for clean water since millions don't have access.
Day 2 - Looks materialistic but since it creates art and pleasure, I'd say it's the equivalent of a paintbrush and canvas, or a piano, or sculpting clay....
COFFEE!!! :)
...and the sun.
Day 2: Grateful for shortcuts! Makes life so easy for terrible cooks like me!
Grateful for fun times at home hanging out with the family... Today was a crazy day, so had to use a filler picture from earlier this spring, before the leaves came in on the trees...which makes me think how grateful I am too for trees, and leaves and the warmer weather of June!!
Grateful for summer, that it's finally here!

Grateful for an amazing date with my main squeeze at a restaurant with an awesome view.
I am grateful for music! It helps me through homework :o)
I am grateful for sprinklers on a hot day ;). It was about 100 degrees here today, so me and friends cooled off by turning it on! It felt wonderful ;)
