Reverse Lens Technique/ Macro

February 13th, 2013
I recently got a reverse lens adapter for my 18-55mm kit lens to attach to my canon 600D. I tried taking photos of a house spiders, but found it extremely difficult! I'd love to be able to take awesome close-ups of bugs! Any tips? I have a gorillapod and regular tripod.

Have you tried focusing with live view? have not used a reverse lens , but have taken shot some pics with close up filters and found it best to manual focus with these,

reversing the lens you gotta get real close, so set the focus and move in physically until you're like 2-5cms away from the subject.

Use the self timer to reduce the amount of camera movement, even if using a tripod.

I've got one and I love it. It's hard, you need lots of light and patience. I've never used a tripod with it though...I hate them!

What @chewyteeth said! You have to get super duper close - like centimetres away! And always have plenty of light (but not a flash - it will cast a shadow over your subject). Try turning the focus and zoom rings too - they will get you nearer (or further) from the subject and also provide greater (or less) magnification. :)

I'm not very technical so all I do is remove the lens and turn it around and shoot!
