Graphics Pen for editing

April 2nd, 2011
Does anyone use a graphics pen to do their editing?

I feel so 'un-co' when I use a mouse... curious to see if others feel the same as more, or what others use...

The more I'm learning & playing with photoshop, the more I dream of a graphics pen to make my life easier!!!

I have the Wacom Bamboo Touch and I absolutely LOVE it. I had bought the Bamboo before I got into photography for a film class I was taking in college, so I've pretty much used one since the very beginning.

Every once in awhile I'll end up at an office or newspaper using someone else's computer to edit a few photos, and using a mouse seems odd and even painful.

I'm an AutoCAD draftsman/GIS technician by trade, and noticed I was developing carpel tunnel symptoms in my mouse hand. Bought a Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch and haven't had a problem since. If I go back to the mouse for even a day, I can tell it when I get home. Right now I'm trying to get our IT guy to buy one for me, so I can bring the one I bought home and use it here.

If you're going to buy one, spend the little bit of extra money and get a model with pen and touch capability. The pen allows for much finer detail work -- if I were to buy another now, I probably wouldn't mess with the touch at all -- I never use it on the one I have. (But then, AutoCAD and ArcView don't exactly have the best touch input capability)

I have a Wacom Bamboo tablet as well and I really love it to bits. I often even use it for day to day business, not just drawing and photo editing.
I used to have a very big Trust tablet, but it broke and I'm actually happier having a smaller tablet now. It was always a bit of a juggle on where to set the big tablet, and where the laptop.

I use a Wacom Intuos 4, and love it. I find it almost impossible to edit with a mouse now. I used to have a Bamboo but just couldn't get a feel for it. The Intuos has amazing pressure sensitivity and overall design, so I tried again and fell in love. Not saying anything against the Bamboo - it just didn't work for me, where the Intuos does.

Intuos thats the one i used to have, it was chunky must have been the 1st one i guess, about 10 years ago i bought it for about $800!!! :O
It was very good, not sure why i went with the bamboo this time around, i have the touch/pen one... and the touch function i dont use AT ALL mostly cause it kept stuffing me up if i had it infront of my keyboard and i went to type something and my sleeve bumped it something would click and go all over the place... however you can turn the touch off - but it still bugged me so as a pen graphics tablet seriously LOVE it.

Can see jinx's attachment to the intuos its a "cant go wrong" tablet really.
