Hi Graham! I think I've discovered a relative of the bots on a distant branch of the family tree. He lives at the entrance to the pleasure gardens at Blenheim Palace.
[That's his real name, btw, I didn't make it up.]

How cool is that. Not so sure about its legs though, the acorn-ness seems to have become a little half-hearted there after the fabulous torso. No wonder he's gesturing in the air as it the say. "Hey, have we forgotten something?!"
@sabresun See what you mean but I think he's supposed to be pushing his way up out of the ground.? Either that or the carver ran out of wood/patience or can't do legs.
@dulciknit Oh, well that explains it all in a nutshell. Nothing to do with can't do legs at all. Now I see more clearly that the one leg is bent at the knee as if he's emerging from the earth.
@sabresun Unfortunately this was as much of him as I could get in, there was a chain link fence in front of him and if I leaned over it, he was so close to it that I cut even more of him off. I'd have liked to have given him some head room (well, hand room, I suppose) too to emphasise the upward movement. I was seriously cheesed off about not being able to do that.
A great piece. Love the blockiness of this. Great capture.
