We made our mind up this morning that we would try and change the car so our first port of call was back to the airport where we had started. However en route the car did seem to drive more easily this time and by the time we eventually arrived we decided that it would be far easier to keep the car we have.
We then continued our journey as we had intended to to go to the little town of Varaždin About an hours drive from the city. This time we found it with no problem and no wrong turns and amazingly found a parking bay very easily.
The little town was fascinating it really was pretty with colourful houses with red tiled roofs and ornate churches - there was even a castle that I had not known about. The whole town smelt of lime flowers and was full of parks and green areas. Lunch took some time at the worlds slowest restaurant however we were in no rush and enjoy the view over the park even though it’s set off my hayfever.
Topping up the car parking with five kuna coins that I managed to procure from the post office we headed off to visit the towns cemetery which was so well planted that it is listed as a place to see in the Rough Guide. It was quite a walk in the hot sun but well worth it and really was incredibly impressive with many trees neatly clipped and amazing tombs by famous sculptors.
We were flagging now in the afternoon heat and so after a soft drink we headed back to the car and this time it was my turn to drive for the first time. I have not been looking forward to it but in actual fact the gears were a lot easier than I had expected and this time we were prepared for the strange satnav instructions and actually managed to arrive back to our apartment with no wrong turns.
We had dinner at Sofia again which was not quite as good as last time but still enjoyable and we headed home and were early to bed as we need to get up early and pack before the next stage our trip. To be continued…
