We enjoyed a lie in this morning and it was quiet. It was nice to have a chance to potter around before we walked down into the centre of old Zadar. It was very hot so I think it should take about 20 minutes but took us half an hour!
We walked around the entire peninsula before stopping for a coffee opposite the ‘Sea Organ’ sculpture which was truly amazing. It is a piece of public art which is permanently built into the promenade and plays when waves and wind enter from down by the waterline. It sounds rather like hump back whales chatting but really gets animated when a boat passes and creates more waves. We sat and listened for some time and I hoped my legs would catch the sun!
We walked the rest of Zadar and paused to book Fosa restaurant that Robert the apartment owner had recommended for Sunday evening. We also stopped or a light lunch in a restaurant on a small square. After a slightly frosty start with the waitress I had one of the best tuna steaks I have ever have, cooked rare and Colin had sword fish in a tomato and raisin sauce - delicious.
We continued exploring before a long walk back taking a different route.
Zadar is famous for its sunsets and this evening it was at 8.40pm. This time we drove down and had no problem finding a parking space. However, there was some low hazy cloud and in the event the sunset was not as impressive as I had hoped. However, it still made for some interesting images as I used the people as silhouettes for interest. As it got dusk we wondered around in much more pleasant temperatures and came upon a great ‘a capella’ band of eight men and women singing covers of pop songs including Adele - they were excellent.
After a brief search for the car we headed back for some snacks as we were still full from our late lunch!
