5th May 2020

Day 43 of lock down.

Today I have mostly been making fudge. As the sweetened condensed milk I ordered was in a tin about three times the size I actually wanted I needed to use the excess rather than waste it. I am going to box it up and send it to family around the country tomorrow printing off mail labels from the internet.

Caught up with Mum on the phone before lunch and then making the second batch of fudge. Taking a bit longer to make it than I do at Christmas and I have found a much easier way to prevent it sticking - it tases quite good although I say it myself.

We wandered out to Bushy Park later in the afternoon and walked through the Pheasantry which is looking beautiful. It was still bit chilly but the rabbits were out in abundance and the rhododendrons and azaleas are at the peak of their flowering. I expect the Isabella plantation must look stunning now but sadly it is closed to visitors. The sun was getting low as we started to walk out and made a feature of the infamous ancient ant hills. We exited by the Clapperstile gate and dropped by Tescos. They are still operating the excellent social distancing arrangements and there were few people in there. We picked up some essential and got back by 8.30pm in time for me to cook pork steaks, broccoli and chips.
