7th October 2020

Day 196 of semi lock down.

Today is card count day for what will probably be the last deliveries of general greeting cards this year. Due to the lock down earlier this year and a significant decrease in footfall, sales will be less than half of last year. It will be an achievement to reach an average of 300 a month by the end of the year.

We headed to Richmond and then Twickenham to count and at least the cards are still selling. I also managed to pick up an Eccles cake and cinnamon bun from our favourite cafe in Richmond. Sadly the usual staff seem to have disappeared and I have not seen them for months. I hope they will return but maybe they have returned to their home countries in Eastern Europe because of the Covid19 lock downs. House of Fraser in Richmond now looks very sad as it closed for the final time last week. There has been a department store in that location for over 200 hundred years. The old ‘Dickins and Jones’ sign is now visible from the 1970’s over the door where the signage had been removed.

The scandal continues at my photo club following a judges ill judged choice of words and sadly two very hard working members of the Committee including my friend Paul have resigned from their posts over the issue. What a sad result to an issue that could have been resolved much earlier with some goodwill on each side.
