22nd December 2020

Day 279 since the start of the 1st lock down.

After the disaster of our attempt to buy a Christmas dinner from M&S last night, Colin woke up very early and announced he was off to Lidl to try and remedy the situation. I was not about to let him have all the fun so I threw on yesterdays clothes, we jumped in the car and arrived at 6.45am. As you can imagine this was a shock to my system. We found a parking bay this time and despite official opening being at 7.00am the shop was open with quite a few fellow early bird shoppers. Most importantly was to find a turkey - no problem, Colin found what has since turn out to be a large fresh turkey for an unbelievable £18 - some £60 less than the two remaining turkey crowns in M&S last night. Once that was in the basket we could relax and pick up the parsnips and carrots, potatoes, red cabbage and many other delights. All of this was only £68 - £10 less than the infamous turkey crown in M&S!! I grabbed a few croissants as a reward for our very early start and in celebration of now having got ourselves a Christmas dinner.

Later in the day when we had recovered from our early start and actually been in the shower we walked to Bushy park for fresh air and also to check out the car park situation. We are hoping that Karen can make it over our way for a present exchange on the 23rd of December but we wanted the see what the parking situation was like first. We walked our running route and paused briefly on the bridge over the Longford but long enough to spot a Kingfisher - brilliant. We are planning to come back again and see if we can get a photo. The Clapperstile car park near the NPL seems to be the best with plenty of parking and it is on Google maps as well so easy to find.

We stopped via Tescos on the way back and I bought a few more Christmassy things including a large pork pie with cranberries on top that Colin enjoys at Christmas (I rather like it as well), along with some cheeses including a strong blue for me! I also bought the very last two foil trays from Teddington Essentials and had a feeling of euphoria and success - small things and all that!

This evening I decided to splash out and treat us to fish and chips from our local shop on Kingston Road. Yes again, massive portions and delicious mushy peas. It made up a little for not being able to go to ‘Superfish’.

68,307 PHE dead in the UK (691 deaths in the last 24 hours). Shockingly we will be over 70,000 deaths very soon
