The weather was much better than yesterday so we decided to head towards Southwold as Colin wanted to show me the amber shop where he bought my lovely necklace a number of years ago. It took us quite some time to get there as for some reason there were a number of closures of small lanes across the country which made us keep diverting and changing direction - thank goodness for the recalculation on the SatNav as their diversion signs were not that frequent!
We finally arrived and found a good parking pace with parking just a few pints for 24 hours. We wandered through Southwold in the sunshine and found the amber shop although apparently it had changed a lot and was not as good as when Colin visited bacon in December a number of years ago.
We walked along with coast and up past the creek to a fish and chip shop right by the water. We had a short wait but when our food arrived we had massive portions and an extra gherkins for Colin as apparently we were so nice - I agree with that! It was delicious and even more so when washed down with a chilled bottle of ‘Ghost Ship’ beer produced by the Southwold brewery we had seen earlier - Adnams.
On our way back through the nature reserve we were lucky enough to spot a lizard which was exciting. We walked down the pier and this is where I took todays photo of Southwold beach and the colourful beach huts. We stopped at Dunwich on the way back which - according to the Rough Guide - is a mysterious beach where the houses have gradually subsided into the sea. In the event there was absolutely no sign of any subsided houses and the beach was quite normal!
