1 year, 140 days since the start of the 1st lock down in March 2020
The day has arrived - Friday the 13th. So far we are a President and her husband down due to Covid so I am hoping that is the end of the bad news for today.
First thing I drove to Lidl and stocked up on our low supplies and bought food for a number of meals over the next week before. Mum and Ian arrive next Friday. I did pretty well and even remembered the chocolate raisins. I had been dreading doing a second LFT - not just because it is rather unpleasant but also I hadn’t go the faintest idea what to do if I tested positive. I had the cups, the decorations, the plan, the napkins! Luckily for everyone I am still testing negative and long may it last. If felt a real relief.
I had a few last minutes calls with Lorraine and Peter who is standing in for Lorraine this evening. I was at a bit of a loose end in the afternoon, I packed up the car, got changed into my new White Stuff dress and despite being too early I set off at about 5.15pm to the golf club and was there in 10 minutes.
The room looked really good so I set about folding 37 red napkins and tidying each place setting which gave me a chance to notice any cutlery that was missing. Other committee members started arriving at about 6.30pm so I felt a bit more relaxed. I had taken me a good hour to put up signage, prepare tables and put out the cups. It felt quite strange being in a room with a lot of people and no face masks but I opened the doors so it was well aerated. I also got a few hugs which it was impossible to avoid!
The evening went really well even though we were another 2 guests down so we had a total of 35 people on the night. The chef excelled himself and my worries about the quality of the food all vanished - I even managed seconds. Deserts were good as well - profiteroles for me. Then speeches and presentations and I moved onto my role as photographer with my iPhone. The official events finished fairly early at 9.45pm but most people were enjoying themselves so much I had to prise them out at 10.45pm and I eventually got home just after 11.00pm. I even had time to FaceTime Colin from the golf club to let him know how it went.
All in all a great evening although a lot of work. I am so pleased that everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and there was even talk of a Christmas event there as well. I had a large mug of tea to celebrate when I got back
