14th August 2021

1 year, 141 days since the start of the 1st lock down in March 2020

My last day of being on my lonesome, although I have to say I have got a tremendous amount done in Colin’s absence!

In the morning I knocked up a Victoria sponge cake with strawberry jam - gave it time to cool this time so the jam didn’t run everywhere! Changed the bed and did the washing.

I watched Simon Calder at 12pm and then afterwards drove to Molesey to see Julia and take back her table pots that made the tables look so good on Friday. I walked back through Tescos to pick up some bits and bobs for Chris so he has at least enough for a cup of tea and some breakfast.

In the afternoon I worked so hard and basically vacuumed the entire house, cleaned both bathrooms and did just a little dusting - didn’t want to overdo it too much! In fact I was dripping by the time I had finished so much so that I needed a second shower before I had dinner.

I had tracked Colin and Chris’s flight from Alicante back to Heathrow and it was delayed by half an hour. I decided that after all the horror stories of extra long delays on arrival, I would not leave until just before the flight was due to land. I chose my parking bay in the 24-hours Tescos at Hatton Cross, tuned into iPlayer and prepared myself for a long wait. How wrong I was, Chris and Colin cleared immigration within minutes and nobody even bothered to look at the certificates they had paid for in Spain. I waited until I had the second call to confirm the they had picked up both cases and golf backs and I set off to Terminal 5. It should have been very straight forward but after a few minutes I missed the all important left turn down Faggs Marsh (unfortunate name!) and headed off on a journey nearly twice as long that took me to the glass facade of the terminal and not at all where I wanted to be… three circuits of the roundabout while I ascertained the correct exit and I eventually turned up to collect them.

It was very nice to have them back safely and unsurprisingly the roads were pretty quiet as I drove to Chertsey to drop off Chris and then back home.

I think Colin is relived to be back and it feel strange not to have been away with him.
