The Cajuns wore new game jerseys this week, with a large fleur de lis on the front and one of four French words on the back: unité, combattre, fierté, croire. Fan reactions were mixed. Even though this part of Louisiana has a strong French heritage, lots of people (including me) pulled out their smartphones to check the meanings of the French words--unity, fight, pride, believe.
Interesting- I've seen other teams do this in English of course. Do you know if the players got to choose the word for their jersey? These kinds of things really do build team spirit, although sometimes it seems odd to the ones looking on.
