Do you stop the action or capture the motion?

Saturday night the University of Louisiana, Lafayette played at Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS. The Cajuns lost, but both my player and I thought it was one of the best venues we'd visited, even though the temperature was close to 100 at 5:30 game time.
I like the occasional motion blur shot. It give a better sens of the action happening!

@eudora Well you do such a great job, Diane. You need to know that from others! ;~}

Diane, have you used a monopod in situations like this? Some places may not let you use one, but pretend it is a walking stick. Anyway, it will help you with your panning. Also, with your 16 MP camera, you could afford to take a slightly wider shot then crop down to the bit you want to show. Good colours and action.

@nairda Thanks for your helpful comments, Adrian! After 15 years of taking football photos, I'm looking for ways to change them up a bit. I used to use a monopod when my player was in high school, but larger college stadiums in the U.S. don't allow ordinary people to bring them in.

Excellent capture of the action.

Good question! I guess the answer depends on what you want to show- the athlete or the action. That to me is what will dictate which method you use to capture the shot.
