What on earth is this??

Humans own the weirdest things.

Elena and my 50-year-old, barely operational sewing machine.
Sweet capture ❤️

LOL! Beautiful capture of her inquisitive expression. That sewing machine looks kind of familiar too

Ooooh, I love that machine! Been taking a vintage machine workshop and unfortunately, this might be one of those with nylon gears that are almost impossible to replace when they fail. Nothing you can do about that, so take care of it.

@margonaut Thanks for the insight into my machine. I don't sew much anymore, so I work around its crankiness. Every time I have looked at new machines I find that the straight stitch on this one is better than on lower-cost new ones. Of course, I still regret the fact that I gave up my Singer Featherweight portable in order to buy this one. I was young and foolish!

@eudora Tell me about it! When my mother died (I was 15), I talked my daddy into getting me a new machine. It was a Singer Futura II, long gone now. But the one it replaced was a Necchi BU Mira, from Italy, one of the gems of the time! Took me 40 years to find another Necchi like that. But I have one now and it's amazing. Also, the Futura is the reason that my husband gave me my first Bernina. He was tired of hearing me cuss at it! It was the best gift he ever got me. And in fact, I am still using that machine today!

@margonaut My mother, aunt and grandmother all had Necchis, though I don't know what models. They all sewed beautifully on those machines. When my mother was in her 70's, her machine needed a repair and my father (who liked having the latest things) talked her into buying an inexpensive Singer for about the same amount as the repair would have cost. She never enjoyed sewing on the new machine.
