When she was about five, my granddaughter and I tried to visit the California Academy of Sciences, but the admission line was too long. We went to the de Young art museum instead. She was polite about it but disappointed, so we didn't stay long. Today, as she prepares to head back to California for her second quarter of college, we visited the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. Here she contemplates a work made from plastic debris by students from Lafayette Academy, guided by artist Jacqueline Ehle Inglefield.
