Spanish Town Mardi Gras Flamingos by eudora

Spanish Town Mardi Gras Flamingos

Spanish Town (the oldest neighborhood in Baton Rouge) Mardi Gras celebrations begin when plywood flamingos are placed in City Park Lake. Here a flamingo is kidnapped for relocation in someone's yard--all part of the tradition.
how fun! you caught them in the act too! I like the composition of this collage!

I know this is an older picture, but I remember one year when I was living on campus at LSU I passed by the lake either going home or coming back and I saw it filled with flamingos. I couldn't figure out what it was for but it gave me a good laugh. Nice to finally know! :)

@ithinkithunk I laughed when I read your comment. When they first started putting those flamingos in the lake, I drove by there every day and couldn't figure it out either until I read about it in the paper. Now they don't stay there very long. The day I took these photos some college-aged guys were hauling in about 10 of them--and it was a cold, windy day, not much fun on the water!
