@golftragic Definitely EBay is worth looking at. A filter is much cheaper but fiddlier and you have to do a long exposure as it cuts out so much light. Go for it Marnie!
@susanalena IR stands for infrared Susan. This shows up light that is invisible to the human eye. Foliage shows up as bright white, skies go black and an image is totally changed from how we see it. If you Google "best examples of IR photography" you will see some real stunners.
@fbailey Not likely to be for a while FB, got a fair bit on my plate for the rest of the year, including a month overseas. But will certainly keep it in mind for 2019.
