@rosiekind Am so pleased to hear you're now ok. My dad lost his sight in his 60s and it's such a tragic thing to happen to anyone. His main passion was photography ...
Absolutely right. I wear glasses and I have hearing aids too. Thank God for the amazing modern technology that enables sight and hearing to continue when one or two hundred years ago, I would have been classed as disabled.
PS quick question: been playing with my IR screw on filter. Do you take photos in monochrome or do you take them in colour and then edit into black and white afterwards?
@casablanca Hi there, I take them in colour but they always come out in shades of red anyway and then you have to fiddle in post processing. Thete are lots of videos on the net about taking and processing but from memory you need to play with longish exposures if you're using a filter. Think you said you used Affinity? Will try to find some more info for you. Also bright sunshine works best. On a dull day IR didn't work well for me at all. Will get back to you later.
@fbailey Thanks a million. I tried in colour and it was bright red. Then I tried in black and white and it was okay but not anything special. So I wondered if you changed it post processing. I do use Affinity sometimes, I don't have Lightroom or any of the PS stuff. If you come across any info, I am always happy to be pointed in the right direction to check it out. I found Googling it a little contradictory and baffling, but I may just have been looking in the wrong places!
@casablanca Sorry, am rubbish at hyperlinks. I Googled 'using an IR filter with Affinity for infrared photography' on my phone and a little way down the screen 'Infrared processing - Affinity on Desktop Questions' came up and took me to Affinity forums. Think you should find it's quite possible but I've never used it so can't really help any further here. IR does need a lot of work in post processing to get a reasonable result. Gavin Hoey has a couple of tutorials on YouTube for both taking and processing in IR but this is with Photoshop. I'll knock out an IR shot now but taken with a converted camera and send you a list of what I do to get to the end result.
@casablanca Try this link for general info - it's in Photoshop but Elements has just seized up on me and I think you'll find it helpful re layers and Channel Mixers. Don't worry because it says faux IR, it gives a great description of changing the Channel Mixer etc much better than I could explain. https://medialoot.com/blog/how-to-make-a-fake-color-infrared-effect-in-phoptoshop
I also play with Nik filters Viveza (for b&w and colour) and Silver Efex (b&w) to give a bit of a punch.
It probably seems v daunting right now but you'll soon get the hang of it, if I can do it, anyone can - just experiment and have fun:)
