The Highland Cattle have been grazing on the Downs on the outskirts of Dover for probably a year or so now. I have never been able to get that close to one before with a fence for safety in between us, and if they have ever seen us in the woods and come to investigate, I'm not hanging about!
Today they were right by the roadside so I took the opportunity to catch a few shots. I'm sure the eye contact was there, but he did have a lot of fringe ...
How come these cows always manage to look so lovable - I hate cows but these are gorgeous. Maybe their big noses and little fluffy ears are a bit like a koala? This is a wonderful shot of him watching you. :)
I was looking at photos of Highland Cattle on another site last night. (Apparently there's a farm not far from where I live.) They have sort of defensive look to their faces - I think it's the big nose, the inability to see their eyes very well, and a sort of set to their jaw that makes them look this way. I, too, would probably not want to get too close until I was better able to gauge their disposition. Those horns look like they might hurt. Nice capture.
One of my cycle rides takes me through a group of these cattle. They look so fierce ... they do come close, watch carefully and oh my, those horns! I wait a while until a passing local says 'they're all right its safe to go' Then I cross my fingers , shut my eyes and fly! Fortunately you have survived them so maybe I'll feel more confident next time! This is such a perfect picture of one representative of the clan. `fav
@yrhenwr Am so glad I'm not alone in respecting those horns. There was a strong fence between us when I took this. I would not cycle anywhere near them!
