My Get Pushed challenge this week was for an image depicting strong textures, and came from Paula. I have wanted to revisit the local churchyard for some time now and I thought the above could fit the bill. Quite a lot of the very old headstones have a skull or skulls and crossbones on them, and I was told by one of the church wardens that these denote the burial sites of victims of the plague. He always tells visiting children that they are pirate graves so as not to scare them! The inscriptions on the headstones have been completely obscured over the years so I cannot put a date on the above.
@deeganp Hi Paula, my second attempt at your challenge:) I did try this in b&w as well but I prefer this one as the lichen and little pieces of dry grass show up more in this version. Hope you like it, very unlike my usual style! Felicity
fascinating explanation for the skulls on the headstones - I was wondering about just that thing as I looked at your photo. You cant beat a good bit of old carves stone for some strong textures.
What a fantastically macabre headstone, while I was reading your information, I felt sure it was going to be something to do with pirates! A good plan by the church warden :)
