Nautilus Shell by fishers

Nautilus Shell

Cliffe Castle Museum at Keighley not only has a large collection of geological mineral samples, but also numerous fossils. This Nautilus Shell dates back to the Jurassic period (which began some 200 million years ago and ended 145 million years ago).

The information label with this fossil reads: “Calcite replaces the shell but mud infills the first chamber and the siphuncle tube”.

Thank you all for your comments and favs, which put this shot on the popular page.

I was fascinated by the geology displays at this museum. I could easily have spent several hours looking and photographing the wide range of geological specimens there.
