The River Wharfe flows through Otley, and on it's north bank is Wharfemeadows Park. This shot shows part of the more formal gardens, with a row of houses along the road beside the park.
Wharfemeadows Park was created in 1924 when land near Otley Bridge was purchased by the Council and a further area of land was donated by Major Fawkes, of Farnley Hall. In total Wharfemeadows Park covers some 60 acres running adjacent to the River Wharfe for 1.5 miles.
It is a very pleasant walk through the park, and it was well used, with a large number of people taking advantage of this lovely park. It's just a shame that there wasn't some sunshine to brighten the scene.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, it's been a pleasure to read them.
For those of you who liked these houses, I should point out that this whole area was covered by flood water back in December, so they aren't such a great place to live. There are still obvious signs in places showing where the flood did their damage, but I must say the park staff have done a good job in restoring the gardens after the flood.
Thank you Bob - this is the first time I've seen these gardens and houses close-up, though when I've passed by on the bus I've always thought how attractive the area looked.
