These mills were built in 1871 and are now Grade 2 listed. Currently occupied by Damart, the French clothing company, the building is a familiar landmark for those travelling through Bingley.
Transport links along the valley have had an interesting evolution. The canal was the first major stimulant to industrial development, in the early 1800s. Later a railway was built, which further encouraged development. More recently a dual carriageway road has been built between the railway and canal, and represents the latest evolution of transport. To allow the major road to be built, the canal had to be diverted slightly to the north.
Railway road and canal run side by side at this point. I am stood on a bridge over the railway and the road and canal are between me and the mills.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are appreciated.
Bingley is a place of great character and has been a great source of inspiration for me - and I already have a list of shots to take on my next visit!
