Hoverfly by fishers

Hoverfly

I spent quite a bit of time trying to get a shot of one of the many hoverflies on cow parsley flowers that I saw during my walk on Friday, and eventually got this shot, which I was reasonably happy with.

Aparently there are around 250 different species of hoverflies in the UK. Their appearance often mimic bees and wasps - insects that sting and also taste unpleasant, so are avoided by predators, although they are in fact true flies and do not sting.

You got a good picture of the hoverfly. I would've also thought it was a wasp. thank you for the information, Ian. I shall add it to my favorites.
