Rotherham Minster (All Saints Church)

This impressive church is built on a site where there has been a church for over 1000 years. The first church was built by the Saxons, and replaced by a Norman church built in the late 11th century. The current church was largely built in the early 15th century and much of it survives today, although there have been changes over the centuries. The tall spire is an impressive local landmark and towers over the town centre.

A very impressive church and a beautiful blue sky to show it off.

I do like taking photos of churches, especially the inside. This one would probably grab my attention for a shot too. Nice shot.

Thank you all for your comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.

The view of theis church is even more impressive from the opposite side as it stands on a small hill, but that was in the shade at the time I was there. The interior is also really beautiful, but it was closed, and anyway I was really filling in time between buses after visiting my mum in hospital, so there wouldn't have been time to take photos of the interior. I should add that to my (very long) to do list!

impressive church and architecture Ian. they sure do not build them like that today. Whilst reading, I was wondering if any of the older building existed, or did they break it down and start over

@ninaganci Thank you Nina. Each church was built on the site of the earlier church. It is quite likely that older stone was reused in the new church, but I don't know for certain.
