Midsomer Murders is a long running British tv series set in the fictional county of Midsomer. The locations used for filming are mainly in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire, and they form a lovely backdrop to the series. In this mini series I will be sharing some of the locations with you, and hopefully you will see how attractive these places are.
This first collage shows the town of Long Crendon, frequently used in the series, and which had a beautiful array of attractive buildings, many timber framed and quite a few with thatched roofs.
Long Crendon has a long history. It was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. In 1162 an order of Augustinian monks was founded in the village at nearby Notley Abbey. In 1218 Long Crendon was granted a royal charter to hold a weekly market; the monies from which were to be collected by William Earl Marshall who owned the manor at that time.
The town was certainly important in that period as it shared the distinction with Aylesbury as being the only places in the whole of England where needles were made. The royal charter was later rescinded and the market moved and joined with the existing one in nearby Thame.
Today, High Street in Long Crendon, where all three of these photos were taken, is a quiet backwater, with traffic moved to a wider more appropriate road to the north, which makes it an ideal quiet filming location.
My wife knows that series. Not now anymore on the Dutch channels. Great shot of those lovely houses . Give my Thanks to Katharine for her nice comment and fav.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
For those of you who haven't visited 'Midsomer', it is well worth exploring, and despite walking many miles discovering the area, I never came across a single body!
The settings look lovely.

Pity, I do not watch TV, though am enjoying your series
Thank you Nina - this is a series I love to watch but I sometimes interrupt the pleasure of others when I spot a location that I recognise!
