The wall walk in York is quite an energetic undertaking. There are around 2 miles (3.4 km) of wall, and in addition a number of gaps to walk between sections of wall. In addition, there are numerous sets of steps to descend and ascend. I've no idea how many steps there are, but it is a lot!
In this shot I'm at the top of a set of steps beside Fishergate Bar where it is necessary to descend, cross a road (cycles and pedestrians only) and ascend more steps back to the wall walk.
You can see an information board to the right of the steps, which give an interesting history of the walls as you walk the wall walk.
I hope this hasn't put you off the wall walk - if you are ever in York it is well worth tackling, even if you are only able to walk a short section of it.
A great picture of the steps. Its like when we go to a particular park with 260 steps. we counted them last year. we haven't not been there this year. the walkways are kind of narrow and with covid, we rather take our walk more in the open.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I don't know how many times I've walked around the walls walk, but it is a lot. It is fascinating how the views from the walls have changed over the years, with some old buildings renovated, and others demolished and replaced with new. It is a fascinating source of interest and photos.
I'm pleased to see so many of you have enjoyed a walk on this wall walk.
