Across the top of Bootham Bar, York are three statues looking out over the north-western approaches to the city. They were installed here in 1894 as part of the late Victorian restoration, and replaced badly eroded medieval sculptures. They were created by a stonemason who had a workshop close to Bootham Bar.
The figures are, from left to right, a stone mason holding a model of the bar, a Knight carrying a sword and shield and the 14th Century Mayor Nicholas Langton.
Thank you for your lovely comments and favs. Ian looked at them all this morning before heading off to his mums for a few days. I'm charged with posting for him at the moment.

Very true - they have a rock hard constitution!

I thought you might recognise them. It is interesting to see these statues close-up.
