Today's shot was taken from beside the ruined tower of Helmsley castle shown in yesterdays post.
This shows how the tower would have been visible from throughout the town, displaying the power of the castle owner.
The tower in this shot is a church tower, that of All Saints Church. The church dates back to 1129AD, though the tower and much of the rest of the church was rebuilt around 1865.
The church has featured before in our project. In December 2023 we went to a Christmas Tree Festival at the church, which featured here from 10th to 12th December.
Ah, lovely place to choose to photograph from. Helmsley is nice. We used to go to a lovely pub nearby that often had classic cars outside. The Fauconberg Arms.

Helmsley is a busy little market town, with a good selection of facilities. We frequently visit, since it is one of the places where we can change Moorsbuses. At one time, we used to have bacon sandwiches from 'The Old Police Station', though sadly they are no longer available there.

Is that the pub in Coxwold? - another of the national park villages well worth a visit.

Funnily enough I've just been looking at that area on the maps, since I'm thinking of a walk from Sutton Bank to Coxwold on one of our Moorsbus trips.
