Thornton Dale by fishers

Thornton Dale

Our Moorsbus trip last weekend became something of a duel between us and the wet weather, and a search for at least a little sunshine. Normally we might have stayed home, but the Moorsbus season finishes after next weekend and we wanted to enjoy it as much as possible, since the service is unlikely to start again until June next year, or perhaps even later.

We ended up at Thornton Dale where it was dry, and later the sun appeared from behind the clouds.

Close to the main road is the site of a walled garden, now used as a car park, and to the west of that is a pond with a small island. A path encircles the pond and we followed that, looking at a selection of wood carvings along the way. The area is well wooded, but there are breaks in the trees with views of the pond, and this shot is an example of what can be seen. I rather liked the hint of autumn colours.

We always park in that walled car park, enjoy the trees, pond and river and have coffee or lunch in the bakery across the road. Favourite spot for us. Instant fav
