Off to London. by happypat

Off to London.

This is Preston railway station taken while I was waiting for the London train. I can remember standing on the bridge overlooking the lines when I was a very young child & the steam trains used to puff smoke out & cover you with bits! I am surely giving my age away with that sentence !!!!!
This station was due a refurbishment this year but it was cancelled because of government cut backs.
I am sorry I have only been away a day but have got miles behind with comments ...I will try my best to catch up but might just skip a day !!!!
Great shot.

@mgozzard I was surprised how pretty it looks Margaret as it is only a run of the mill station ! I took it on a 16.9 aspect ratio to get more in so think it works well There was a guy with a very fancy camera taking photos too so I stood next to him !!!!

Wonderful station. We took the trains everywhere while in England. Great way to travel there. Great capture, Pat!

@karenann When were you in England Karen ?

I have to fave because this bring backs lots of memories!! Setting off on exciting trips and walking up the ramp and spotting my mum waiting for me on arrivals home. I don't think they still have the same exit do they? No steam trains for me but 6-seater carriages were always exciting!! Also I'm laughing about you standing next to the man because there was a chap under a tree photographing the mist this morning so when he'd left I went and tried it out!!

@judithg I don't think you would find any difference at the station Judith. They still have that slope & the main exit onto Fishergate Hill but that exit isn't used as much as the side exit over the bridge onto Butler Street. The main thing you would notice that there is a multi storey car park at the end of the street for railway users. We always think others might have a better vantage point for photos !!!! And we can always learn !!!

In your photo the station looks great, it doesn't look like it needs refurbishment!

Wow - that's an impressive railway and fantastic shot. Want to rotate it just a smidge so that you get those lines extending to the corner (bottom left)...but you'd probably need to have a fly wire to take it!

this is a FABULOUS shot Pat - I love this station - and you've captured it perfectly. Fav for me

@giselle Thanks Giselle ! I did think the angle could have been better but was trying to get the most roof in that I could ! What is a fly wire ?

Love all the ironwork which gives the station a nostalgic atmosphere of days gone by. This is a great shot, Pat :)

stations can be miserable or special. I think this one falls in the special category Pat , due to the great roof and lines of pillars and red brick buildings. The light is good for you here and you've done a great job

This brings back memories for me too - many years ago changing trains here to get home to the Fylde. I loved the buzz of trains coming and going.
