I took Tui down the road to this 25 acre field this afternoon where they are getting up the potato harvest. They have been at it 3 days now & the potatoes are enormous ! It's like Hansel & Grettal because there is a trail of escaped potatoes all along the road !! Harry was there last night with his bags & some of our neighbours are going to go & pick up all the left behind ones !
Free potatoes all winter if we store them right !!! The size of them one would feed Harry & I for a meal !
There were lots of seagulls following the machine picking up worms.
Snap!! All the best people have tractor shots today!! No freebies for me though :0( It looks pretty dry with you as well Pat - there won't be any potatoes next year of this keeps up! How wasteful leaving them all over the place (or would be if Harry and your neighbours weren't so diligent!) - are they going for crisps or chips if they're so big?
@judithg Last years went to McCains so I suppose chips or roast potatoes & the machine sometimes misses some as it turns the corner so the left ones tend to be at the end of rows.
I love this action shot, it could be a shot from down the road from me. Mike (my husband) works for a potato grading and packing plant, he was saying that it is a very poor year, yield wise, for potatoes so you would have thought they would have been more careful, especially in the current climate!! That makes three tractor shots today!
@samdan There seems to be a massive amount of spuds coming off this field Lesley so I think it's a good crop. we have had a lot of rain this summer so up here anyway they have grown well ! Yes we are having a tractor day ..I think so many farmers taking advantage of the weather !!
Massive machinery Pat - I smiled when I read your little story about Hansel and Gretel. I'm sure they will taste even more delicious when you think about the story of picking them up.
