@munchkin84@slang@phil_howcroft Thank you all so much !! I had a scene where there was just the sunset but thought that the light & pavilion contrasted with the sky quite well .
Beautiful shot & fabulous for the quotation - I like the poppy. I wanted a sunset too really but the day has just gone from dreary to drearier. At least we are still here to complain about it. Lots of American bomber command on that wall - did you father make it back?
@judithg Yes Judith he did but died aged 57 in 1971. He never spoke about the war & how I wished we had asked more. He was a navigator on Lancaster bombers during the raids on Dresden etc Not a anything to be proud of & I think it was not much talked about & a lot of criticism afterwards but those very young soldiers only doing their duty.
@happypat You should visit Cambridge and do Duxford air museum as well. They have Lancaster bombers and spitfires - my dad says the life expectancy for a rear gunner was an hour and a half over enemy territory. Those boys didn't make the decisions about where to bomb....
Harry & I with our youngest son went on a hop on hop off bus in Cambridge years ago & I remember going out as far the war cemetery & will certainly try & visit the museum one day too !!! Thanks Judith ! When you think of your own children in their early twenties & younger & if they had to go to war ....let us pray that peace comes to all !!!!
What is left to say I have just been reading all the comments as I scrolled down to make mine.I agree with your thought's Pat how dreadful it must have been to send such youngsters to fight in the war's.I think your picture is very dramatic and its a fav.
Congrats on an amazing pic Pat - I love it. We had a very moving service in the town on the 11th - first time we have taken the school ceremony to the town reflection centre. A fave.
Beautiful tribute for remembering Veterans' Day. I'm married to a military guy who's deployed overseas, and 11/11 is our anniversary, so the day was hard for me. Thanks for sharing such a lovely photo. Makes me feel better.
@christiehicks Must be hard for you Chrissie, we must remember all serving soldiers & families as well as the ones who are no longer here !! Thank you so much for your comments !
A poignant image too ...well done all round
